Torque and Chrome

I ran through road paving and have tar on my chrome wheels, how do i remove it?

I have tried most conventional cleaning fluids or sprays, for tires and wheels, doesn't budge the tar, it also splashed up on my side door. most products say not safe for painted surfaces, any suggestions?

  1. gasoline..on a rag... i run a asphalt plant no smoking
  2. Most cleaning fluids and sprays wont hurt chrome, unless its abrasive and corrosive. I have used diesel fuel with great success in removing tar from my wheels. You just need a fairly small amount. Apply a generous amount then let it sit for a few minutes. The tar should start to dissolve away. If not, brush it again. Once gone, you can use dishwashing soap and water to wash away the diesel fuel.
  3. agree with bad seed, also try not to get gas on rubber tires, and wash off when done, ..
  4. I am auto detailer. I use kerosene and steel wool.
  5. gasoline will take it off and not hurt a thing, just wax surface that you put the gas on after you are done as it will take the wax off.
  6. Gasoline and an old rag.....rub until the tar is gone....dispose of old rag properly...
