Torque and Chrome

What is the best wheel cleaner for chrome wheels?

Last spring I spent an entire afternoon trying to get the crud and brake dust off my rims. The previous owner neglected them. I started with F21 wheel cleaner, and before I was done, I was using polishing compound and a wheel brush. Still never got them really clean! Please tell me there's an easier way, I don't want to go through that again! Preferably something I can get at my local auto parts store, or someplace readily available. Has anyone found a spray-on that really works on neglected wheels? Thanks!

  1. Are you sure theyre chrome and not polished aluminum? Chrome wheels shine up pretty easily. Aluminum needs alot of work
  2. I was going to suggest you use Windex glass cleaner, but after reading about your situation I really don't know what to tell you. I'm sorry.
  3. Go get a can of "Neverdull." Make sure your wheels are dry & not in the sun. Easy to use. Tear a peice of the cotton from the center off the can, rub the wheel. As the dirt works off you will see it turning black. Wipe off the residue with a soft cloth. Depending on your wheels, you may need something stronger than you can't buy at the store. If the neverdull does'nt help, I would suggest you go see a local Auto detailer in your area. The have chemicals that disolve what may be on your wheels & as Dave said they may be aluminum-not chrome. Hope this helps!
  4. if they are chrome for sure you can use 000 steel wool that you buy at the hardware store.
