Will Steel Chromed wheels pit from salt?
I'm debating on getting some new wheels for my truck. I seen some steel wheels that are chromed but will they pit if the salt from the streets gets on them if it snows? I'm think alloy because I live in Nebraska and we get quite a bit of snow sometimes and I don't want to ruin them. I don't know what I need? Help me out!!!

- yes
- Chrome will pit from the salt. This is easily seen in Motorcycles riden in Florida. The salt pits the chrome bad and discolors it.
- Aluminum is the best Michigan winters are also salty and bad. All rims will need attention sooner or later.
- I will tell you 2 things you can do to protect your rims, first you spray clear high gloss polyurethane all over the rims for spring/summer/fall driving and smear Vaseline evenly on the rims for driving in the winter. this is something I and many others have done. (I lived in Michigan 40 yrs.) Give this a try and you will be quite pleased with the results. This prolongs the ''life'' of your rims considerly.
