Torque and Chrome

Will Steel Chromed wheels pit from salt?

I'm debating on getting some new wheels for my truck. I seen some steel wheels that are chromed but will they pit if the salt from the streets gets on them if it snows? I'm think alloy because I live in Nebraska and we get quite a bit of snow sometimes and I don't want to ruin them. I don't know what I need? Help me out!!!

  1. yes
  2. Chrome will pit from the salt. This is easily seen in Motorcycles riden in Florida. The salt pits the chrome bad and discolors it.
  3. Aluminum is the best Michigan winters are also salty and bad. All rims will need attention sooner or later.
  4. I will tell you 2 things you can do to protect your rims, first you spray clear high gloss polyurethane all over the rims for spring/summer/fall driving and smear Vaseline evenly on the rims for driving in the winter. this is something I and many others have done. (I lived in Michigan 40 yrs.) Give this a try and you will be quite pleased with the results. This prolongs the ''life'' of your rims considerly.
