Torque and Chrome

Is it hard to paint automobile rims that are chrome "black"?

I would like to get my current chrome wheels painted to a flat black color...wondering what the steps were to do this and how difficult it is for an amateur? Should I get it professionally done?

  1. It is pretty hard spraying chrome wheels black. The chrome doesn't absorb the paint as good as your vehicle does. That being said everytime a stone or something hits the wheel, the paint is going to chip. The paint will flake away and In a short time look very cheap. I dont recommend spraying the rims at all but if you must the best way to go is to a pro.
  2. If you properly prep the wheels before paint, you can paint ANYTHING if you can get your hands on a sandblaster, you can sandblast the wheels to rough up the "black chrome", then it's just like any othr paint job, primer, sealer, paint...
  3. what they recomend you to do is go to your local body shop and have them do it they should only charge you about 20 a rim well i did it good luck. dont don it your self because when it snows or rains that road salt will eat that paint right off well best of luck
