Torque and Chrome

Steering wheel still shaking..help please?

I have a honda civic with 18" chrome rims & wheels. Recently had rear rotor's machined down coz steering wheel shaked when braking, then told the rear right wheel bearing needed changin, so changed it, then got front rotor's machined coz still shake when braking, then it shaked when normal driving, so got wheels balanced and aligned, now the wheel still shakes but only when it reach speeds 80km/hr and over! Took it back to the place that did the balance & alignment, said they did it perfect and no problems. So why is it still shaking!?! It's really annoying me that none of this fixes the problem or creates a new one! Thanks guys, by the way what i paid to get all this done, would not equal another civic with chromies. Well the shaking I guess shouldn't pose much of a problem right? Just that it's annoying at times. as long as my wheels don't fall off, i don't have time to bring it back to shops to fix...either that or if it gets really bad, sell it, buy another jap hottie. Also the rotors are ok, first they did the rear rotors coz they said it looked like it needed doing and the front looked fine, when i got it back, still shaked when braking, so got them to do the front rotors down, then it didn't shake anymore when braking, only when driving at high speed.

  1. too many times in the shop.... that is the problem... for the money that you wasted doing all these things you could have got another civic and those 18" wheels on it, which never belonged there in the first pace
  2. might wanna have front suspension shecked out??? could be ball joint or stabelizer loose or bent,,,, also check for broken belt in tire , but this should have shown up in balancing , depending on the place you had the work done, still if it only happens at a certain speed I would be more inclined to believe that ya got a tire and /or wheel problem,,,,, good luck,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  3. I had a similar problem started to shake around 60 mph. My car turned out to be a strut and some worn out front end parts. But if you went to a reputable place they should have caught that with the wheel alignment But, with all the money there taking form you i doubt they are reputable. It should have been fixed the first time.
  4. Take your car to a tire shop and have the front tires "spin balanced." I know you already had them ballanced....but that does not mean anything with the rims you have.......It is a whole other process to balance "custom rims." and some shops won't touch them. If you feel the vibration in the steering wheel,.. balance the front tires......if you feel the vibration in the seat of the car .....its your rear wheels..... I would bet on the rear wheels because they have no load on them......and balance guys don't spend the time on the rear as the front tires. Find a tire shop that sells and installs those large wheels....they will be set up to balance them properly. They are in no way like the normal car wheel....they have inertial differences different than how a regular car wheel behaves .........they are very different. (Houston, Tx)
  5. The first thing is that the wheels are not OEM and therefore may not be compatible, even though bolt patterns are correct, with the vehicle. Changing the wheels changes the centrifugal weight placed on the suspension system and a minor out of balance function will cause the indicated vibration. i would recommend that you take your vehicle to another shop and have the wheels checked .
  6. Try getting your tires balanced at another tire shop. If it also passes in another shop, then it's not your tires. You should consider getting new brake rotors (about $20 each from your local auto shop) instead of having them machine-shaved. If the shaking didn't go away when you use your brakes at high speed even after having them machine-shaved, then their machine or the machine operator did a poor job. Good luck!
