Torque and Chrome

how to Change collor of rims?

I have had 18" chrome rims on my car for about 4-5 years but now the chrome on the rims are damged and dried and it is falling. Now I was wondering is it possible to scrape of the chrome paint and repainting it black I want to paint the rims black and the sides leave them chrome but I have no idea how to do it or is it even possible and if yes what kind of paint should I use so that it would be gloss. Thank you

  1. call a body shop in your area. They should know
  2. You can give them a light sanding and paint with any good spay paint but unless it is done right it they will soon look worse than they did before. Best off taking them to a local paint paint & body shop. I had maco paint the wheels on my saab 900 to match the car. well worth it at $35 a wheel.
  3. The best bang for your buck is powdercoating. It is a very durable alternative to paint, it's thicker, less chance of fading, peeling and harder to scratch. Most auto makers and aftermarket wheel manufacturers these days are using it. If you look at most factory wheels it's powdercoating. For it to adhere the surface to be coated is usually sandblasted prior to coating. It comes in a wide variety of colors and like paint, the surface you don't want coated can be masked off. The overall finish looks amazing!( giving that the surface it's to be applied to is prepped correctly) I have had almost all the brackets and intake manifold coated on my Stang and it has outlasted the painted parts and most of my parts were coated about five years ago. Good luck!
