- thats the stupidest thing i have ever heard, wouldnt just hold the salt closer to the wheel. I just give them a good coat of wax.
- OOH, 20 inch chromes. I bet those sell for a pretty penny on the black market. Lemme just take them off yer hands before you corrode them away. A good way to protect your rims from salt and stuff is to keep them in the garage, and use the steelies the car came with. Second to that is locking lug nuts... 20 of them, five for each wheel. The lug nuts will only protect against "stuff" such as criminals, mind you.
- vaseline is a petroleum jelly. You could use it on your chrome wheels. It will not keep the salt from the street from pitting them. The jelly will just give it a place to stay for some time. I`m not saying it will not protect your rims. What i`m saying there is a possibility it could pit them/ Best method for keeping them nice is to wash them off everyday and dry. (even wax will not keep them from pitting) Or put on some old tires and rims until spring.
- nanowax from eagle one has a product out for rims, check it out at advance or autozone, good stuff, and inexpensive. will protect from the salt and stuff, and provide protection against pitting, another thing, wash the rims once a week, to keeo the bad stuff from doing damage
- my friend used vasoline on his chrome rims back in the 60's and the wheels really collected the dirt over the winter but come spring he would clean them off and they still looked like new.
