will 20'' chrome rims slow my car down?
Public Comments
- no but the police will
- probably not, unless you have a really weak engine but your car will not want to stop unless you upgrade the brakes
- No, but if the circumferance of the tire surface is larger, the speedo will read that you are going slower than the real speed you are doing. The best way to check final speed is to go to a shop that has a dynomometer and have the speedo checked for accuracy, usually an hour charge, about $75.
- If you mean will it slow down your acceleration, then it might. If your car has enough power to "peel out" during the acceleration then you have more than enough power to move up to larger rims (not necessarily the largest). But if your car is already tapped out (not able to spin its tires) then increasing the tire size will make it even slower (in acceleration). Even if you can peel out on first, if your car can't in second gear then it will accelerate slower in second gear In Europe, where they have more small cars, they often go for smaller diameter rims for cheap mod to get the car to accelerate faster (and handle better). === But if you are talking about top speed, not it won't slow you down (at top speed). It might actually get you going faster because most modern cars have rev limiters. === The poster above say to go to a dyno shop. I have another idea. Go get a GPS (or borrow) and check your speed. I've done this with my car (using 2 gps at once) and the GPS are mostly very accurate (within 1 MPH of each other).
- Well it depends on the car. But for the most part, no it wont. However, speaking from experience, you should slow your self down a little. I put 20s on a 03 Altima without making any suspension adjustment. Just take it easy on those speed bumps, and pot holes are a B#$%H. 20s with a 45 profile sits nice and will tuck on most cars. Also recommend rolling the lips of the inside of your wheel well.
- yes it changes the gear ratio. It will likely hurt your fuel economy as well
- they weigh more generally and when your car is heavy it isn't as quick as it would be stock. what do you care more about? the speed or the look?
- NO BUT THE PRICE WILL...................
