Torque and Chrome

Is there a certain paint that you can paint your rims with?

Im 15, so Im broke as hell. I have a 1985 Ford F-150, its not worth sh!t, its just my dad gave it to me after helping him for free in his yard business. A LOT of memories, I got a lot of sentimental value to the truck. So Ive already started working on the engine. Next thing would be the tires, rims, and paint. I found someone selling some nice rims and tires all for 750. Its just there all chrome. I was wondering, is there a way, is there a paint that you can use to paint over chrome rims and it looks good. Like straight up black rims? Thanks to all the answerers

  1. There are a lot of paint options available, problem is with the chrome on the rims the paint will not stick on them for very long, it will start to flake and chip off in about 2 or 3 months. I would locate some rims that don't have chrome on them and paint them with a high temp automotive paint. I say high temp because as you use the brakes the heat will warm up the rims. just food for thought.
  2. You can buy paint just for rims. First, you need to sand blast the chrome off and you should be good to go. My buddy did it to his wheels and from the way it sounded, it was fairly easy. If you have a compressor, all you need to do is buy a sand blaster ( I think they're cheap).
  3. Woe, woe, fellas. Don't forget about powder coating. It will not make a shiny finish, but it is easy to apply and resists knicks better than conventional paint. Chrome is tough though.
  4. Why you want to paint over chrome rims??? Chrome looks much much better on a truck. Ever seen black rims on a monster show truck? Get the chrome rims, put them on and save yourself some more money! By leaving them the way they are. With a good paint job, those rims will look great. The whole truck will look great! Try it, you'll like it.
