- remove the catalytic converter
- The chrome muffler tip will do nothing for your HP, except take away money that you could have put towards the car in other areas. The simplest, and cheapest way to increase horsepower, is to sell the car, and get a better performing one. Not trying to be a jerk, just answering the question with a fully truthful answer. If you have to keep the car, look into simple modifications such as an air intake, a slightly larger exhaust, etc. It'll be tricky, since that car isn't one that's commonly modified, but you should be able to find parts for it. An exhaust shop can do a custom exhaust for you. Between those things, you'll see a little power gain, plus some fuel mileage gain, as well. Good luck! Sounds like a really nice gift to a dad.
- the best way and cheapest, is do a complete tune-up, like high performance plugs and wires, also clean out the throttle body. chrome tips wont give you anymore power, just make it look better.if he likes music, buy him a new cd player. also give it a good wash and wax job, maybe scrub the white walls and put some armor-all on them and also the dash board.if you dont do anything else, he will be very pleased with what you already did.i think that is great, you doing that for your dad. you dont find too many sons that will do that for their parents.i know i didnt give you very much to go on but i hope this much will help.tell your dad hes got a good son there.
- Getting his car detailed is a Good Idea. CHANGING anything on someone's car without their permission is a Bad Idea. Don't do it.
- First boff their is no Cheep HP. the most inexpencive HP is through a Aluminum Flex Fan it removes a lot of weight from the engine torque value and still keep,s the engine cool.next would be K&N air intake system, A Quality set of Header,s would help, but Keep in mind it will alway,s be a Lincoln. commonly known as a (Led Sled) Sorry I cant help you any more.
- You could purchase a K / N air filter, they let the engine breath better, thus a little added horsepower They are not replaced at oil change, they are cleaned and used over and over. They are a little pricey and the require maintenance. They need to be washed with a solution, air dried, then oiled. If your dad has the oil changed at a Jiffy Lube, etc., they will not do the service on the filter, either you or him will have to do it. It doesn't take long. An aluminum Flex Fan will help a little with the torque value as it weighs less than the stock fan. You could purchase a Flowmaster type muffler and maybe a larger exhaust system. The Flowmaster will change the exhaust sound to a nice throaty rumble. Again, if your father won't like the sound, don't buy it. Rember, all of these items are picy. Good luck.
