What would you need a 1000 ft-lb torque wrench for?
I was just browsing the Snap-on catalog and was wondering what you would ever need a 1000 ft-lb wrench for? It's six feet long! Tightening the head bolts on a 25 cubic meter diesel engine?! Oh, and in case you were wondering the wrench only costs $2 per ft-lb... Here's the kicker: "Warning--Do not exceed rated torque." Or what? You get a hernia?

- Heavy industrial machinery. Snap on tools are not limited to auto mechanics. The warning partly is to prevent snapping the handle off and injuring yourself and partly to prevent you from suing Snap-On for a defective tool.
- I use one every day to tighten the lids on my Pepsi bottles so that Barry can't sip on my sodas (I don't want or need to drink his fungus-laden backwash ever again!)
- Air Craft (Wheel Bearings), Heavy Industrial Equipment
- Used to use one torquing the heads on Cooper-Bessimer diesel engine during rebuilds! Some older aircraft engines had high torque on their props but they had a 'torque multiplier' tool.
- As an Army mechanic, I've used them many times on tanks. If you exceed the rated torque, you can ruin the wrench, or parts of it can break and injure you.
- I have one of these I use on baby food jars, it's the only thing that gets the little bleeders off :)
