Torque and Chrome

A novice mechanic is told to tighten some bolts using a torque wrench to a torque of 90 Nm.?

IN the first instance he pushes with a force of 90 Newtons parallel to the 1 m long wrench handle. In the second instance he pushes perpendicular to the 1 m long wrench handle with a force of 90 Newtons. How much torque did he apply in each instance?

  1. in this first case zero since the force was applied along the direction of the wrench, or in other words, he generated no moment in the second case, the force is perpendicular to the wrench, so the lever arm = 1m and the torque is 90N x 1 m = 90 Nm
