Is Park Tools torque wrench a good choice?

I'm getting various equipment for my personal needs, including a torque wrench, and I would like to find out if anyone use Park Tools torque wrench. Do they build quality tools?

  1. Various brands of tool makers are usually decent quality. If you want a better tool you can try Snap-on, Mac, Matco, or Craftsman(sears). The more you pay for a torque wrench the higher the quality. Most mechanics have 1/4",3/8" and 1/2" wrenches and just take care to turn them back down after use. If you are not a pro, then the one that you mentioned is probably good enough for occasional jobs like head and intake bolts. Getting just a 1/2" is all you may need. The settings will go low enough for most jobs and still have enough power for head bolts. If you want to save your self some money, you can try harbour freight. These are good enough quality for most car jobs. Like I said just take care of it and turn it back down when you are through. If you don't plan on using a torque wrench much, then spending a lot just does not make sense. Most pros calibrate their wrenches once in a while to make sure they are accurate, but this is expensive and only required on Aircraft maintenance.
  2. Again Ted beat me to it, good advice. harbor freight rocks. As far as your personal needs, trial and erra. In the long run you will end up with duplicates and that's a good thing, having tools at work a few in your car and some at home. Whats best for others may not be best for you. Also, just because its name brand and come from a tool truck doesn't mean its the best - at least for starting out and until you get going strong. What I do / did is to stock up on all competitors tool catalogs (and price sheets). Sears, Harbor Freight, Mac, Snap-on, Cornwell, Matco, Northern Tool & Equipment,.. Hey, unfortunately now-a-days alot of 'guys' are having to sell all their lifes collection of tools, check your local pawn shops (wheel & deal) ebay, local news paper.. Good Luck!
  3. I bought some of their tools last year for few semi-professional jobs and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I expected average quality torque wrench that won't last for a long time, but as it seems now, these wrenches will be used for many many years. Very durable, recommended!
