Torque and Chrome

Does putting a Custom Chrome 6 speed in a stock FXR transmission case change the oil capacity?

@ Andy , I run a Baker in mine but the CC is in the Ol' Lady's bike and she rides like a chick . @ fixer , I'm running the Red Line shock proof gear oil like in mine . I use all the Red Line stuff

  1. It shouldn't.It's displacing the same space. The gears are just machined thinner to fit in the case.I'm not sure where custom chromes gear sets are made now,but if it was me i'd choose Baker instead. You get what you pay for and Baker makes top notch stuff.
  2. Actually, it does. Generally, it takes about 2 ounces LESS oil because there is more internal displacement. USE RED LINE VTWIN TRANS OIL!!!! It will shift smoother and quiter. On initial fill-ups using Red Line, I always add 2 extra ounces, because Red Line sticks to everything, the oil that clings to the inside walls of the trans, reduces the actual level, usually about 2 ounces worth. On the next trans oil change, just use the normal amount. For your purposes, a stock fxr trans should be 20-24 ounces, I always add the middle amount, 22. But with you installing a 6spd, it would be 2oz less So with Red Line, the first time, use 22, then after that, 20.....just remeber this is a starting point guide line, check the level with the bike HOT and standing upright and level, when checking the level, just insert the dipstick, until it contacts and rsting on the trans cover hole, DO NOT thread it in, this is a common mistaken, the dipstick does NOT get threaded in, it just rests there.
