chrome plating process help please?

chrome plating process, is this right hi all im getting a bit confussed with a chrome plating kit ive bought the instruction seem to have been written buy the same person who does flatpack furniture, anyway what i need to know is the following correct. If you were chrome plating something that had chrome plate all ready on it, when you strip the plate off, you would have nickel plate underneath, once all the chrome plate was gone. You would use a nickel plate activator before you replated with chrome plate again. Also if you were chrome plating something that had never been plated at all, after you had stripped blasted etc down to the bare metal, you would have to nickel plate it first, then use a nickel activator, then put it in the chrome plating ,so does this mean if correct, the nickel activator needs to be used to make the chrome plate stick to the nickel is this right anybody please.

  1. The best chrome plating is triple plated - copper first, then nickel, then chrome especially if done over steel - if you are going over brass then the copper can be left out. To start chrome plating, then you need to strip right back to original unplated surface for best results - you don't know how well it has been done and the plating that is there might lift and ruin your finish.
