is a jeep grand cherokee laredo a good jeep?
hi, im looking at a 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo for sale. it has 106,000 miles for 5,500 dolllars. i want to know if jeeps are reliable (can they easily go 200,000 miles) the jeep im looking at looks in really good shape except for a small dent, its appears to be raised and has some good looking chrome rims. does this sound like a good deal? it has the straight 6 cylinder engine and its also 4x4, is there anything i should look at before buying? thanks in advance!

- jeeps have aluminum blocks and heads that have had problems with cracking due to running overheated. have a mechanic check this for you. its an expensive repair. former jeep owner..some have put a sealant in to hide the crack.
- I've been in a family that consistently purchases Jeeps religiously time and time again. If I could briefly summarize their experiences, I'ev found that most have proven high mileage worthy- yes, just topping out around 220,000. One even made it to 290,000 with high mileage driving daily. While most served us well, there were one or two that crashed in the low 100k range. While they may not be as fuel efficient and have the life some foreign cars do, I still believe they are vehicles worth buying. Another comment I would like to make is buying a vehicle with modifications, such as what you listed in your description. Although some mods may look good and help with performance, my experiences with pre-owned vehicles with after market accessories has always been poor. They have a tendency to be abused in many cases. Take the vehicle to a mechanic, ask questions about maintainence and receipts for work if available. This will give you a much better idea with what you're getting into. When were the brakes, tires, serpentine belt last changed? Just rapid fire questions at the owner in a nice and polite manner. Hope this helps!
- You Bet! 106k in miles that motor is just getting broke in. The Straight six is one of, if not the best V6 engines ever made. In my opinion the 4 wheel drive is awesome for our Minnesota winters, what you do is put it in all time 4 wheel drive and then its 2 wheel drive until it starts to slip then it engages the front tires. If I had the chance to buy it I would in a heartbeat.
