Torque and Chrome

Can I paint chrome rims without sanding?

I want to paint my chrome rims, but do I have to sand them? I've seen rims painted without being sanded, and they look fine but I'm not sure if they will chip or crack or anything like that.

  1. You definitely have to sand or sandblast the chrome completely off. Paint will not stick to chrome at all. It will start flaking and chipping in no time.
  2. Sanding followed by a self-etching primer.
  3. Sure you can paint them without sanding..... but do wonder how long the paint will stay on the chrome.
  4. i've tried it and it look good for a while but comes right off and looks like $#!+ sand blasting first is good idea
  5. If you sand the chrome off, the metal might rust easily. Chromium dust is very bad for you.
