How do I remove chrome from car wheels?
I recently purchased some Acura TL 18" chrome Spec A wheels for my RSX. I planned on powder coating the rims or painting them. At first I was going to powder coat but I've heard this can be dangerous as it can weaken the wheels (no thank you). So I figured I could paint them but have read that stripping off the chrome can be very difficult. Any suggestions on how to remove the chrome so they are ready to be prepped for primer and paint?

- Sand blasting them .
- Paint remover to get the clear coat off, then sand it down.
- yup take them somewhere and get em sandblasted. dont blame you I wouldnt be caught dead with chrome wheels :P
- sandblast them; I had a place down the road from my old shop that sandblasted the letters on grave headstones, they were always glad to make an extra buck, then clean and prime the wheels, then paint
- Sand blast but it is very time consuming chrome is heat dipped and not easy to get off. As for power coating there is nothing to say it weakens anything, powder coat is paint and has nothing to do with the rim strength ,nor does chrome. They are steel.
