Torque and Chrome

The chrome plating on RV wheels rusted?

Since it was plating instead of chrome wheels, and being in very wet area, even with polish the chrome rusted down to the base metal. I've used a rust inhibiting paint to stop the rust but was wondering if aside from very expensive re-chroming if there is possibly alloy wheel covers that could be put on over them? I have a friend whose RV wheels are aluminum alloy and naturally they are nice and shiny..wonder why all RV wheels don't go that route?

  1. you can use steel wool, it take rust off in a snap. do it gently as not to scratch the chrome. or AER polish. you can get nice new wheels for cheap also on ebaymotors. new or used. youve got options.
  2. the best place to try to find the answer to that question is a big rv store, some bigger dealers, have a showroom full of all kinds of rv up grades, and cost is the reason for cheap plating over polished alloy. camping world is an online store, you can try there, and see if they have anything, you may have to buy a set of alloy rims, from experience, any kind of rust inhibiting paint, is a short term solution, and the chemicals are actually illegal in some states for cancer causing risks, (just for your information) best of luck
