Torque and Chrome

When you were younger or even now, what car or truck was your absolute favorite?

I've been a mini motor head since my teens. Raced powder puff on dirt tracks and drag raced at a strip down by Cincinnati. In the lat 60's and early 70's it was some what intimidating seeing a girl show up to drag race but after beating a couple of guys that openly ridiculed me a bond happened. What were favorite vehicles owned by you and why? What vehicle was your least favorite? My favorite was a 1969 Cevy SS with a huge engine (gas was so cheap in 71) I also owned a 67 Pontiac Lemans with a decent engine, traded up to the Chevy SS. 1950 Ford short bed pick up in baby blue with wide tires and nice chrome wheels. Didn't race that one though. My least favorite was a 70 Dodge Charger with the hidden headlights. Those darn things malfunctioned all the time. It didn't have a huge horsepower engine but sounded a whole lot faster than it was. Every darn time I came to a stop light, some guy would want to race. Just shook my head no. That was in 74 and married that year. That husband didn't like racing so I hung it up. Even though I'm older, would still love to strap on a helmet and give it a go down that quarter mile strip one more time. Strange Brew....wow I bow and give you respect friend. Considered myself fearless in my teens and early 20's but saw too many friends get hurt in Demolation Derbys. I always had this need for speed and like the fast track:-) tb163...Gosh the Chevy Chevelle and SS's were so awesome in the 60's! My brother in law taught me how to drive a 4 speed in his 65 Chevelle SS which was no easy feat cause that car screamed. He was very patient with me and had me shifting and clutching smothly in less than an hour. oops meant tbo163 How in the world will I ever choose BA! Bill, oldman and gmgyp55 I'm absolutely have be drooling over the cars/trucks you've owned. Really dislike leaving BA up to the comunity to decide because there's sso many great car mentionied here by everyone. oooooooo i hade mai Ur OOWew ri w rgR AURYW- The last entry on additional details was not made by me. Some how/some way someone could have hacked into this question. What a shame. It's so easy to determine that the grammer/spelling was certainly not mine.

  1. My Black 1957 Chevy convertible with the 283 V8. That was a nice car. If I could get behind myself I would kick my own butt ten times for letting that get away from me. :) My least favorite was a 74 Nissan Centra. I named it "Brown Terd" I also owned a bored 1947 Harley 74. It was fast.
  2. I loved the 1966 Lincoln Continental white with blue seats my favorite
  3. I always wanted a 1957 Ford Thunderbird convertable...(Robin egg blue) but I never got it. By the time I was able to afford it, I wanted a Cadillac.
  4. I loved my 1972 VW bug. It was orange with black interior. I took all my brothers and sisters to Cedar Point in that car. It was adorable. My least favorite was a 1979 Olds Cutlass Broham (sp) with leopard seats. Those seats got old awfully fast. My last car was a 1988 Buick Riviera. Had it for ten years, had to sell it last year when we were out of work. Hated to see it go because it was so dependable.
  5. I have had some very nice automobiles, including a couple of sports cars, but my all time favorite vehicle was a Ford Ranger pickup truck that lasted me well over a dozen years. It hauled lots of things and went everywhere.
  6. I've owned so many fantastic cars it's hard to pick, especially when you consider their different styles and uses. 34 Ford coupe channeled 6 in. over the frame with a big Olds V8, 50 Ford Woody with a prepped flatty, 51 Olds What a cruiser, 57 Chevy hard top stock, 57 Chevy s/w with a very built 327 that would yank the front wheels so high all you could see was sky, 64 SS Chevell with 327 that would yank the front wheels, 67 GTX factory dragster stripped down with a fully prepped 426 Hemi stock from the factory, 70 Buick GS-stage one that would yank the front wheels, just to name a few. How do I pick?
  7. I drove very ordinary little cars until I was 43 years old- a Corvair, a VW bug, a three speed Chevy Nova. But when I saw the newly designed Camaro Z-28 in 1993, I had to have it. I loved that car. My husband, a true muscle-car lover, was thrilled. I felt like I was in the cock pit of a rocket in that car. My least favorite car was that Chevy Nova.
  8. The vehicle I have right now - Astro Chev. Van
  9. I only owned one car personally. It was a 49 Ford. I don't remember the model, but it was a four door. I was the second owner, and that little car handled so well. I drove it with a suicide knob and it hugged the road and curved great. I didn't keep it, after I got out of the service. And I took a bus home. My favorite that I co owned, after I married, was probably a 58 Chevy Impala, in white. That was one of the best style years for the Chevy's.After admiring the neighbor boys' Impala when I was young, I wanted one of my own after that. It was a class act, with that body style and all of the chrome. We sold it to a minister on a handshake agreement for him to take over our loan, when we aquired a bright red, Plymouth Fury convertible. The fins on that car sure seemed to make it go faster. But my absolute favorite car, was a Chrysler LeBaron I believe. That car could have driven all by itself. It parked like a dream and did everything on a dime, if I asked it. I think the year was a 1978 when it was brand new. It was a company car, so we only were able to keep it a few months before it was sold. I sure loved that car. I never drove anything so easy to operate before or since.
  10. Hey there, I drove powder puff demolition derby at the county fair grounds. Short lived fun for me, I got banged up my second show, decided I liked making money better than racing and wussed out. Good for you re:dirt track, I did beach, sand is softer. =)
  11. I owned several I'd like to have back but I think my favorite was a 1966 GTO green metalic convertible with a white top. It had a 389 with a four speed. This wasn't my fastest but I liked it the best. I also owned a 1966 Chevelle with a 327 engine and a four speed trans. This was the fastest car I owned. I bought it new and didn't buy the SS package because if the insurance company found out they would cancel me. I was only 21 at the time. This worked for awhile but they found out anyway. They didn't cancel my insurance but the cost more than doubled. I sold this car to a buddy of mine and he raced it at the local track. He beat everyone in his class easily and he was protested. He wouldn't let them tear the engine down but he wanted to know what I had done to it. There were never any modifications made to it. It came from the factory like that. I guess this is one they got right ... really special. I think the least favorite was a Chevy Corvair. I liked the car but nothing would ever work right on it for very long. Drove it home from work one night and it kept getting slower and slower. By the time I pulled in the driveway it was done. I opened the door and smoke poured from the inside. I was lucky I got home but it never ran again.
  12. My MG
  13. My 1962 Corvette. I was young and single when I had it. Now I enjoy my 2005 Chevy Colorado 4WD four door pick - up. Also had a few jeep wrangles that I liked to take out on the trails in northern Michigan.
  14. 1947 merc. coupe. Black, fender skirts, dual exhaust with smittie mufflers visor, wide white walls. God I loved that car.
  15. !st car was a 56 Buick.....My 2006 Jeep Lib sucks.....poor mileage.....but cute vehicle.
  16. When I was a 16 year old girl I fell in love with a red convertible. I admit to not knowing the make or model but it was Philadelphia in the summer and I dreamed of driving to the shore with the top down. I do remember the next car that took my fancy. It was a 66 Mustang and need I say it was a convertible. I had enough money to buy it but by then I was the mother of 2 teens and a convertible didn't seem practical. Seems a lot of folks still have the car dream.
  17. I have two. The 1959 Chevy Impala convertable and the little 1955 Ford Thunderbird where the top unbolted and stored in the trunk to convert it into a convertable.
  18. My favorite car was a 1970 Dodge Challenger. I loved it, it was a 3 speed with a stick shift in the floor. Someone stole it in 1987. It was never found. Poppy
  19. Well Cleo , no doubt we crossed paths along the way at either Tri-state or Edgewater park dragway. I loved my 1951 Ford I bought and drove to high school. The movie Thunder Road had a big influence on buying that car fact I owned 3 1950 Fords and a 1949 ford over the yrs. I bought a 1964 Caddy convrertible my senior yr and loved it almost as much. It leaked and in the winter my sister had to help scrape the inside of the windows while I scraped the outside. A 1971 Javelin was also a car I had that I was never beaten in. It had a 401 engine and a rock chrusher 4 spd tranny.I had a 1985 IROC Camaro that I walked down the assembly line at Norwood GM plant and with some things I learned about the new computerized fuel and ignition systems I was able to "hop it up" by bumping up sensors and fuel pressure . People thought I had put a 350 in it. In fact, when they did put 350's in them in1987 I could beat them with my 305. Loved my 1967 Corvette convertible. My favorite truck, which i still have is a 1969 Chevy . I got it from my father back in1988. He bought it from the original owner. My least favorite car,a 1961 Corvair , which believe it or not was on fun to drive on country backroads cause you could make it drift real easy but if ya drove it over 50 mph it blew out all the oil and overheated and ya had to pull over and let it cool off and keep a case of oil in the front trunk. in fact, this car was stolen only to be returned a week later with a puppy inside complete with 10 lbs of dog food and a big bowl of water.. Another car I didn't like was a 1989 olds 98 4 dr. Reason being was all my life I pretty much drove sports cars and this car was great quality but it wasn't fast and looked like an old man's car. I still drove it for over 230,000 mi. A 1990 Ford Thunderbird SC coupe was the most fun I had driving as I drove 220 mi. round trip to work and with the supercharged engine and independant rearend it handled like a road racer on the 86 miles of 2 lane I drove, but when it snowed it was a "white knuckle terror" cause I had to buy 200-300 lbs of salt to weigh it down. When I bought it it had 42,000 mi on it and when I parked it, it had over 270,000 . I only had to replace a light switch and crank sensor. Tranny had to be rebuilt at 235,000 mi.So, some of my favorites were also my least liked cars as well
  20. Current Mitsubishi Eclipse.
  21. 55 Thunderbird convertible.
  22. I have never looked at a vehicle as more than a mode of transportation.
  23. My first car was a little red Valiant and I was so proud of that car because I had to buy it myself. It had no luxury in it, but it got me to work and home. I no longer had to ride the bus and it was a car that I could afford. Now I am spoiled with a car that is loaded with accessories, but I still consider that little Valiant my favorite.
  24. I loved our first VW Bus. it was more a statement thing for me!
  25. 1957 Chevy,s- they were so cool ! And still look neat, when I see them at the car shows.
