How to refinish black chrome rims?
I drive a Dodge night runner and the wheels are black chrome, but my problem is that the black plating or tint I really don't know how it's done but it's peeling off and the normal chrome (NOT damaged) shows out more, my question is if I could refinish my rims easily without spending too much money. It just looks terrible when peeling off. How could I fix them? In case you're not sure how these wheels look just google image search dodge night runner. (Not the SRT-10) they're different.

- Its a iridescent or transparent powdercoat over the chrome. Many wheels are done that way, The 94 trans-am wheels are chrome with a transparent blue, to make a blue chrome look. super nice. Repairing the wheel to look the same is tricky. Because the powdercoat that is on the wheels now has to be removed. Then it has to be re-powdercoated. The bad part is since the powdercoat has all ready peeled off in places, that exposed the chrome to light, dirt, water and scratches from daily driving and car washes. When you remove all of the powdercoat, you will see darker, scratched places in the chrome where the powdercoat had peeled. In other words the chrome that is exposed is now used chrome. The chrome behind the powdercoat has never been touched by anything ever. So it will be much more shinny then the spots. Most people think you can just polish the chrome where the spots now are, But polish contains silica, and it will not allow the new powdercoat to stick right. So you have one of three options. You can A: have the wheels striped, and re-powdercoated and hope the darker spots don't show up bad. OR, B: strip the powdercoat to the chrome, and leave them chrome. OR, C: Strip the powdercoat, and have them powdercoated a solid color. To chemical strip four wheels, and have them powdercoated, you are looking to spend $200-$300 per wheel. It may be cheaper to buy new wheels honestly.
