can i replace the chrome plated with paint for steel?

The feet of my table is chrome plated and it is already rusty, how can take off the chrome and replace it with paint?

  1. Taking off the chrome would be very difficult. You'd have to grind it off. This is not really necessary. If you're just going to paint it, the chrome isn't a big problem. here what you need to do. Sand the metal thoroughly with medium grit sandpaper, like 220 grit. Go to your hardware store and buy some metal primer. "rust-oleum", for example. Most paints have a heard time sticking to bare metal by themselves..... This is why you need a primer coat first. Ask the salesman specifically for "metal primer" then ask him what kinds of paint you can paint over the top of it. Make sure surfaces to be painted are clean and dry, and free of dust and grease.
