Torque and Chrome

Can you replace or take off chrome lips on rims?

A friend is selling black rims with chrome lips and I am interest but, unfortunately, the chrome lip on one rim is damaged due to hitting a curb. But on the other hand, 3 of the 4 rims are ok. He said the rim is ok but the chrome lip isnt and he also said you could just replace the chrome lip or take it off. I was wondering, can you replace or take off the chrome lips on a rim?

  1. Are you sure it's chrome, & not just machined & polished aluminum ?? If it is chrome, then it's a separate piece mounted on the rim, and if it was mounted, it can be removed & replaced. If it is a machined & polished lip of the wheel, it's possible to repair it or clean-it-up a bit.
