How long does chrome plating last?

My husband has a Cadillac CTS and for his birthday i wanted to chrome out his grill. If i take it to a chroming place and just have it plated in chrome will it peel or deteriorate after a while? does anyone have experience in doing this? how long does chrome plating usually last? is it worth it?

1. most of time 40 to 50 yrs
2. Plastic chroming usually last 10 years and metal last 20.
3. over 15 years old unless you put it on a part of a car that hearts up such as the engine. here it would peel off faster, 1-3 years or even less
