Can price be negotiated at a dealer for a motorcycle?

I am buying a 2009 Kawasaki 900 LT. The msrp price is $8799.00. I'd also like to get another $1400 in accessories for the motorcycle. I was just wondering if the prices can be negotiated like you can do at a car dealership or the price is what it is? What would be a good way to go about it if so. Looking at Kelly Blue book it retails for $7390, Why the difference?

  1. Every thing in life is negotiable. It will depend on how hungry the dealership is to make a deal. Understand that the big 4 Japanese manufactors just cut production by 50% because of the world wide depression. So you stand at least a chance of a decent price negotiation.
  2. YES, very much so, it depends on how a particular model is selling, if its hot and everybody is buying them then many dealers will ask even a higher price that msrp. Take the Kawasaki 250 Ninja for an example, when fuel prices were $4 a gallon everybody wanted one and many dealers were selling them for $4495 with an msrp price of $3499. The way I do it is ask the dealer for a written quote "out the door price" and shop around other Kawasaki Dealers to beat that price. And many dealers may have new leftover 2008's with a full warranty at a greatly reduced price. Last year I had the price on a new Yamaha V Star 1300 Tourer down to $7200 OTD (out the door) price I hate to tell you this but I would suggest to read the reviews on the Kawasaki Vulcan 900, in my interpretation the reviews are not that good on that bike, the Yamaha V Star 950 is a better bike.
