How do I remove rust from a 1981 motorcycle mostly on all the chrome finish.Can I use scotchbrite?

Dremmel on a low speed seems to work but can i paint chrome?

1. Scotchbrite is gonna scratch it all to hell,if its that badly rusted either replace or sandblast and prime and paint.
2. I used jeyes fluid on my mates AND HE HAD NO RUST FOR YEARS
3. When I was akid we used to use a wad of tin foil dipped in water to scrub rust off our bicycle fenders and handlebars, actually worked pretty good. However, now days I would use some sort of metal polish as most metal polishes leave a ptotective film.
4. Use some Naval Jelly according to the instructions. Rinse well. Use a metal polish (such as Brasso) made for chrome. Don't bother with the wadding type (such as Nevr-Dull) as it leaves residue that is hard to get out of crevices. Steel wool and Scotchbrite will scratch the remaining chrome. If you wish to paint it, you may. The surface will require roughing up so that the paint will adhere.
