Question about Chevrolet Cobalt Warranty? I want to put Black Chrome Rims on my cobalt.?
I have a 2009 Chevy Cobalt and i want to put black steel rims on it. Will it void a warranty if i put them on? I know anything added onto the engine will void the warranty, such as an exhaust, but will wheels void the warranty?

- No
- Most likely changing wheels will not if the resulting wheel diameter and width are close to the stock dimensions. But since the dealer is the one who decides what they cover, just ask them directly. If you don't like their answer there is an area supervisor (cover many dealership as the factory rep) that has ultimate say for warranty coverage and you can ask to speak to that person.

- No, wheels will not void the warranty
- as long as you stay to the factory overall tire diameter then you are not affecting anything.
- i believe it was 2005 when a law came out that any makes of parts can be put on cars without it voiding the warranty (even exhausts), this is to stop manufacturers monopolising the market. But if you do the work yourself and it is not carried out by a VAT registered garage then that is likely to void your warranty. If you are in doubt just go into the garage you purchased your car from and ask them, but if they tell you only chevrolet parts are to be used remind them of the new law.
- If you stick to the specifications then it technically should not void your warranty. Even if there is a small deviation they may say that the warranty has been voided. There are a few things to keep in mind. Firstly, if you have issues with the suspension system or the steering system then the first thing dealers may try to blame it on is the add on. Secondly, even though you may have the same specifications the installation process may cause an issue. The best thing to do is not to alter the vehicle in any way, shape or form. If you decide to do so, get authorization from the warranty provider in writing. Request their response in writing so that you can go back to this in the event that they try to blame any issues on the aftermarket installation.
