20" rims on F150 too big?

I bought a 2006 2WD F150 XL triton pickup and I'm about to purchase new rims and tires for it to replace the hideous hubcaps and puny tires. I'm thinking about buying 20" chrome rockstar rims, but have been warned that purchasing rims too large in size will cause my tires to wear out faster (since obviously the larger the rims, the lesser the size of the tire) I'm not really considering putting a lift on my truck, maybe a block in the front. Will 20" wheels cost me too much in tire replacement over time, or will it be about average? The lowest size I'll go is 18" I think The truck itself is purchased (to be clear...) I'm just wondering if 20" rims will wear the tires down too rapidly over time, and cause me to invest more money in tires than I would with a lesser sized wheel.

  1. IF YOU HAVE TO QUESTION THE COST OF TIRES THEN NO I WOULDNT GET EM
  2. You should save your money. Invest in a 401k and by the time your ready to buy a new truck, you'll have a lot of money to pay for it with. You don't need to lift your truck or buy new rims, especially at a point in time where like half of america has at least some chance of losing their jobs. Save your money and you will be happier in the long run.
  3. In my opinion, 20's are too big unless you lower the truck. 17's are ideal and will allow enuf tire to keep it looking great. A truck with skinny tires is like hearing the national-anthum played by a kazoo.
  4. Duh; Ford will sell you an F-150 with 20" rims on it if you check the right box on the order form.
