How much for rechroming an 18 inch wm2 motorcycle rim?
IM restoring a BSA B44 and am thinking about having one of the 18 inch wheel rims rechromed. There is rust on the rim but not too serious with some pitting. The rim is an original Jones so I thought it would be worth saving. Any idea how much this costs and any recommendations, IM in Surrey UK. I want chrome that lasts not some rubbish which flakes off after a year or two!

- its unlikely that a true electro platter would want to waste time trying to re-plate a rim It would need to be perfect with no pits Chrome not like paint finish that will cover and hide some imperfections
- there are loads of places that will re-chrome your rim, check out small ads in back of classic mechanic, classic bike guide, and classic motorcycle. you dont need to buy these mags, just read them in WHSmiths
- Conveniently, you are not too far from London Chroming on the Old Kent Road. They specialise in chrome for car and bike restorations.
- Wassels is a place to get Brit bike parts from. Chrome plating is something you have to be careful selecting a place to do. It can cost over £80 per rim to be stripped and re plated. but there is no guarentees that they wont scrap your rim or make it weakened around where the spokes are mounted. I was looking into having some original DID rims redone that have only gone tatty and green- yet was told that there is a high risk they willbe scrapped. 50% chance they will turn out ok. If you do find a reasonable priced platers that does you a great quality looking job - let me know!. please!!
- im lucky....my mate chromes stuff for me for free...almost every bit on my bike gets chromed...even half my 206GTi engine is now chrome...but im 300 miles up north.
- yes,if it's in good nick,it's nice to have original parts, any pitting will detract from the chrome though.Ive used a firm in arlsey, vehicle and general polishers,01462-835847.near hitchin,a good 60miles from you,the V.M.C.C. boys use them, they are very good, the chrome work Ive had done, oval air box covers, rear lamp assy was 1st class, their prices used to start at around £30,plus the dreaded V.A.T,remember though, the more chroming you get done, the more reasonable the price will be.I'd recommend them to anyone, and they will post parts
