Torque and Chrome

What is the best way to clean aluminum alloy wheels.?

Has anyone used CLR Metal cleaner to clean their aluminum alloy wheels? The problem was that my brake calipers froze which grinded fine metal dust from the rotors on to the wheels. Being that its winter it immediately rusted and which then stained the wheel. I know CLR household cleaner removes rust and this is their equivalent cleaner for cars but does it work? Does it damage the coating on the wheel? The wheels are not chrome, they have a brushed metal look. They seem to have a coating on them but I am not sure its laquer.

  1. strong acids like "rim cleaners" and CLR do work flawlessly. Don't leave it on too long, but smother the rims in it for about 20 seconds and rinse it off. It's 100% safe even on chrome. As long as you do not leave it on too long. And Multi purpose cleaners are good for tires not rims.
  2. I always use wire wool and autosol ,works really well for me
  3. Try Brillo pads!
