Torque and Chrome

I've decided to buy a 883 sportster custom. The guy wants....?

$3800 for a 1993 with 26k mileage on it. The bike has almost everything including hypercharger, chome Trans covers both sides, sawblade rims(polished), chrome batt. cover, sproket cover, handle bars, controls, grips, shifter, pegs, uniquie back light with purple center. The bike is orange with factory sportster decals. Drag pipes as well. The bike i think has an aftermarket cam. It's faster than most 883's also it's lowered. What do you think? Is it worth it?

  1. nope
  2. that is a great deal...sportsters rock!
  3. I don't think much of the 883 sportster. Unless you are a brand new rider or a small framed person, (under 5'6" or so) it will probably not be a large enough framed bike for you. I rode one and thought it felt like riding a moped with a little more pep. As for the value, contact a local dealer and see what they say. Without knowing what condition it is in ... kinda hard to tell.
  4. If you are a female and he has all the stock parts yes go for it. If he dont have the stock parts offer him 3000.00 for the bike.
  5. Not worth it!!! Save your self another three grand and buy it brand new... Sportster is the cheapest bike H-D makes so in my opinion is not all that!
  6. Price isn't bad at all Don't worry about it, just buy it If you are unhappy or want to upgrade later, that bike will bring $3000 5 yrs from now
  7. It's about $1,000 over retail in Florida for a stock bike, but there is also over a thousand dollars in extras on it. If the stock parts are being offered with the bike that will help raise the value even more. How bad do you want it? Offer him $3,250 and see what happens....
  8. it would be better having vance and hines long shots for pipes instead of drag pipes. too many discount just what the sportster is capable of when it's been upgraded to stage 3. they're a potent little hotrod that would be too much for rookies to handle. only thing i would change on this would be to put on vance and hines pipes and get it dyno'ed. there's 2 different kinds of cams; 1 for performance, and the other for torque. a high torque cam will have some neck snapping torque coming off the line. not as much as a hayabussa, but enough to terrify a complete noob. be careful with a lowered bike. lowering also reduces lean angles a bit. this means it will scrape the pegs sooner than a standard 883. i would say this is a hell of a deal for what it has on it....actually, it's under valued. buy it and enjoy. i would suggest putting on a sundowner seat if the bike doesnt already have it on.
  9. That's a good deal.
  10. The "sporty" is the lowest cost HD...buy it new and get the warranty for just about $3000 more. Everyone I know who had a 883 traded or sold and went bigger. Also, through experience with a few used bike purchases, if it's been modified, be sure to expect problems and know how to fix em. If you ain't experienced bike mechanic, be sure to know someone who is!
  11. $3800 is a fair price for a Sportster of this age and milage. If the bike runs well and has decent tires it's a fair price. Sportsters 1990 and later will always tend to be $3500+ and I regularly see them over $4500 so if it's in good shape go for it.
  12. chrome dont get you home ....lol i have a 98 for 4800 with a few more miles. if that is all you have it sounds good, you can take it to your shop and have a compression test done and a leak down test done. that 50-100 dollars will save you some bs later if its worth it to you.
  13. Bike is 14 years old, and is still a carbureted 5 speed New ones are rubber mounted, Fuel injected, counterbalanced, and 6 speed. Might be worth $3,000 all those old 883 vibrate like mad
  14. If its the price your seeking guidance on, its in the range of market. But there are are so many other things to consider on this particular bike you have described. Since it has so many aftermarket changes and adjustments, both to the motor and suspension these should be flags to you as a potentail buyer. If this is your first Harley, then I would really consider/think twice. If your motor-head and like to wrench on things then it may be a different story, but you may be headed for the HD shop sooner than you think after your purchase. Remember, HD stands for "hundred dollars" and you will not get out of a HD service center for less. The 883 is a proven motor than runs forever....almost, until you mess with them. So keep it in mind when your excitement for owning a HD tells you one thing and its blocking your common sense. There are so many Sportsters out there in that price range with less miles and have not been tampered with that could give you more sleep at night. This one could be perfectly fine, spend A C-note and have it checked out by your local HD dealer service center to tell you what condition its really in. Money well spent. Good luck.
  15. With the extras it sounds like a more than fair deal, especially if it's set up to your liking. 26,000 is fairly low mileage ,you can beat the crap out of a Sporty for 50 before you have to hohn and ring it. As far as the color, I'm wondering if it's the same paint my Pit Bull has on her bike? http://www.hollithesidecardog.com H.D. vivid yellow (rare on Sportys)
  16. The 883 isn't suitable for anyone. Its main purpose in life is to get you to buy a bigger Harley. The are too tall for their short wheelbase to handle well. Look past the shiny stuff. If you want a HD just get a big one and decorate it yourself.
