I have two accessory lights for motorcycle. Can a double base contact bulb replace a single base contact bulb.?
I want to replace a standard bulb with a halogen bulb. Both bulbs are same except one has a single contact the other has two bottom contacts. I can modify the receiving base to make contact to both base contacts on bulb. Not sure if two point base is positive /negative or if current runs in one and out other. Thanks for any help you can provide.

- A single pin lamp has 1 filiment as the base or holder supplies the ground. The double pin probably requires a negative and a positive voltage to the pins, so I would say no.
- Single contact bulbs have one filament. Dual contact bulbs have two filaments. These are both standard auto accessory bulbs I'm talking about, which are also used on motorcycles. Halogen bulbs are a different story entirely. Generally speaking, it's foolish to use anything but the correct bulb in an auto or motorcycle application. Modifying the socket of an enclosed plastic fixture to accomodate a halogen bulb will lead to melting the fixture, as halogen bulbs burn HOT.
- The metal body of the bulb is ground. Each terminal (bottom contact) is the positive for it's own separate filament. If you were to modify the base to touch both contacts, both filaments will light at the same time. If using that set up in a turn signal - the flasher relay might not be able to handle it (the signals won't flash - just illuminate).
- No. Just go buy an 1156 (single filament) bulb.
