Blemishes from brake dust on chrome rims?
I have a 35 coupe with chrome 20's and the rear clean very nicly, but the front one;s seem to be stained or etched into from the brake dust. They look like black spots and are rough to the touch. Is there anyway to clear this up? I've tried chrome polish.... just makes the blck spots more noticable.

- Don't laugh. W-D-40. It will emulsify the brake dust. The dust is etching, because of heat. Clean them cold!!! When you have the wheels clean, wash of the W-D-40, with a mild detergent. Then, use Windex, to remove the water spots. It's an old biker trick. Next time, find a biker. Name me a vehicle with more chrome than a Harley Davidson!
- Are you sure this is brake dust? To me, it sounds more like rust. I could easily be wrong -- not an expert -- but brake dust wouldn't etch itself permanantly into metal. If you live in an area where Salt is put on the roads (To combat ice etc. in the winter) I'd either invest in some ugly winter rims, or go the extra mile and buy some polished aluminium rims (They take much longer to rust, if they do at all). Hope this helps. :)
- they need all that chrome on a hardley so they look good on the side of the road,or sitting in the lot with everyone standing around lying about how nice their s77t box is.of course half the time its not running and when it is its the easiest bike to find, just follow the leaks.you can eliminate that brake dust problem all together if you install ceramic brake pads.If it is pitted as you say, that is from the inside and coming out,you cant remove that,SORRY.
