Torque and Chrome

I have chrome rims with harsh salt stains from the winter. How do I get them to sparkle again?

My rims are 18inch and they have salt stains around the outside. Also in the middle is a plastic piece and it is also covered in green dots. I want my rims to look nice for the summer, so anything would help tremendously!!

1. You mare than likely need new rims, Or you can " if you want to spend the money" Get them chrome dipped. They aren't stains. It's corroded the chrome off of them.
2. try Ebay! These new styled rims nowadays stain easy. Just do a search for a few replacement rims.
3. try some chrome polish and a fine ( soft) metal brissle brush. i also have heard that toothpaste and a tooth brush work
4. Vinegar and water, and a brush. Or an S.O.S. pad. You know, the kitcken pot and pan scrubber steel wool thing with blue soapy stuff on it.
5. You can try a chrome polish found at an auto parts place, or you can use a Brillo pad and get them clean, then use an auto wax to seal them. good luck
6. ooo steel wool from the hardware store will clean chrome and not scratch.
7. If you do get them to clean up be sure to wax them with several coats to keep the salt off next year

If you have a truck supply -parts place nearby, most of them carry a product called jewelers rouge, when used with a polishing wheel on an electric drill it will bring back the luster of the wheels, they make different grades of jewelers rouge and you may have to experiment to find which ones work best, like anything else start with the course and work to the finest, that is how the detail shops get those wheels, and side tanks and boxes on trucks to shine like chrome. and sealing them with a good wax is good advice, also once you get them where you want them, you can seal them with sodium silicate, sometimes called liquid glass, or spray them with a clear coat, and buff them.
