Torque and Chrome

chrome wheels and the beach?

I live about a block off the beach.I have chrome rims. They have begun to rust. I pointed the rust out to a mechanic (when my truck was getting a brake job).He said that I could have them re-chromed in a way (as long I stayed away from the acid based cleaner) that all I would have to do is rinse them daily in order to keep them from rusting. This mechanic also informed me that, for the most part, most chrome rims from the factory usually rust because of an imperfection under the chrome. Is it possible to have my rims re-chromed to be rust resistant? Any inputs?

  1. forget chrome man. I also had this delema when I lived in Daytona BEach Florida. What I did was went ahead and had all 4 ims powdercoated to match the color of my truck, I still have the truck here in Michigan now, and the rims are the best looking part of the rig! I only wish they had the chrome powdercoating when I had mine done - which is an option for you now
