Which torque wrench is good for belt work on a car?

My boyfriend would like a torque wrench for his car, I want to make sure I get the right one without him knowing. I know one of the things he will be using it for is tightening a belt or perhaps the pulley that goes to the belt, either way its not just for lug nuts etc. any suggestion

  1. Sears tool department can help you with this.
  2. typically you dont use a torque wrench for belts b/c most cars have a tensioner pulley. unless he is changing the idler pulley. An all around good torque wrench would be a 3/8 or 1/2 in drive wrench. U want one that will go up to around 150 or 200 ft lbs. He shouldnt need anymore than that. You can find one at most autoparts stores. They do make a special tool for reaching the belt tensioner pulley though.
  3. First of all a torque wrench is not a tool to be used to loosen the tension-er for a serpentine belt! A torque wrench is precision tool. It is used to insure correct tightness on nuts and bolts, which also means that it is very fragile and will require recalibration from time to time. Sears is a great place to purchase a good one, they have one that runs $291.99 it is 1/2 inch drive clicker type. Hope he loves you for it
