- If a good chrome cleaner and polish won't take it off then it's rechrome it time. Personally I prefer a product called "Magic Wadding" that we used in the Air Force to polish aluminum. It does an excellent job of cleaning and removing and leaves a protective coat on the surface. You can buy it at most auto arts stores.
- Grade 0000 steel wool followed by good quality metal polish. I'm a big fan of Flitz. You can get it at a gun shop. Mother's makes a good polish, too.
- Chrome polish like Solvol Autosol is good when applied with a soft, clean cloth. If your chrome is very highly polished & you want to keep it really 'cherry' you might be better off with just a soft cloth, some WD40 and lots of elbow grease.
- Definitely Semichrome if it is just light rust. This stuff works and every bike dealer carries it.
- there was a product years ago called naval jelly that i used but it must be taken off with water quickly as it will eat thru the chrome if left on a long period of time. for a quick try, try pouring some coca-cola on the rust spot and let it sit a few minutes then wipe off.
- get some double ott or 3 ott steel wool. it will bring the rust and won,t scratch the chrome if you rub gently.
