How can i paint my chrome wheels black?

I want to paint my own wheels black but i need tips for it! Can anyone help me out. And would aircraft paint remover work, or is there something better to remove the chrome off my wheels.

  1. The chrome plating is metal. You can't get it off with paint remover. If you're intent on having black wheels, just buy a set. Otherwise you'll have to sand-blast the ones you have which can be cost prohibitive.
  2. The chrome on your wheels isn't painted on, it is plated and it is very expensive to do this. I can't advise you to paint the chrome as this will lower the value of your wheels considerably. However, if you are really serious about ruining a set of wheels then all you have to do is to rough up the chrome surface with emery cloth so the paint wil be able to stick, clean the wheels really well and then paint them.
  3. Chrome plating is an electro plating process; the chrome is put on over a copper base coat. the plating can be removed by grit blasting or sand blasting,. the chrome is a very smooth surface and you will have paint adhesion problems, if you do not remove the chrome, you are undertaking a task which should be done by a professional body shop. you could take the wheels to a shop and them have them grit or sand blasted , then prime and paint them yourself if you have the correct spray equipment. it you have chrome plated aluminum wheels you might want to have them anodized black as they would not chip or peel. this again is not a cheap process.
  4. take the rims to a sand blaster who can sand blast the crome off thn prime the rims then get a good metal paint and paint them
  5. all you have to do is ruff it up with 110 sand paper and get some etching primer than paint it
