how to clean road tar off chrome rims?

i drove through a construction zone and got fresh tar on my wheels and tires. it has now dried and i need help with getting the tar off without messing up my rims

2. nail polish remover/ acetone
3. USE STEEL WOOL...
4. Steel wool yes but use #0000 steel wool or you will ruin the rims.
