How do I strip chrome from motorcycle parts at home?
I want to prepare them for powder coating, so I need them to be stripped, and have a good surface for paint adherence. Thanks!

- I stripped the chrome off my pipes with sandpaper and alot of elbow grease. I bought paper from very coarse to very fine and just worked the heck out of 'em. it took me about eight hours per pipe. I sprayed 'em with black high temp paint and it stuck. Hard work, my friend, good luck.
- Dude this isnt homework I'm studying for a test for friday, a big test and i getting ideas from other people.
- I think the easiest and fastest way would be to dip them in acid.I had battery acid spill on some of my nice snapon wrenches and it sure took the chrome off.automotive batteries contain sulphuric acid.
- From what I understand, sandblasting will do the trick. I know it sounds like a big deal, but you can rent a machine from your local Home Depot for an affordable price. Chrome is pretty tought stuff to get off. The battery acid idea sound ok, but messy and quite dangerous. Plus, where are you gonna get a bunch of battery acid? And as for elbow grease...it will work, but in the 16 hours it took you to do 2 pipes, you could've driven to the hardware store, rented the sandblaster, gotten all the chrome off your motorcycle, car bumper, kitchen sink, return the thing to Home Depot, go home, drink some beer, and go to bed. I don't guarantee the blaster, but I've heard it works and is a BLAST to use (pun intended).
