Torque and Chrome

is it ok to be a cop if you are someone who listens to rap music and drives a black person car?

i am a guy in my early 20's, i listen to rap music and i drive a car with big chrome wheels, loud sound system in the trunk, customized everything on my car, flashy paint job coming soon, you get the point. i recently applied to be a police in my area and i am well qualified. i have a normal haircut, clean shaved, no tattoos, no piercings...i have the appearance of a good citizen. once selected to the police academy and so on, will i be stereotyped by everyone who works as a police, because i know i will have to work with cops alot and park my car at the station. i know cops stereotype and racial profile black people, but since my interest and hobby is exactly that, would i be hated upon?

  1. First of all.. "Black person car?" Secondly, no. As long as you aren't promoting crime. If anything, it will be YOUR obvious racial stereotyping that keeps you from the job.
  2. No they don't. What city do you live in? You can listen to whatever you want in your car. Go for the job and enjoy it. You are going to find that most people your age entering law enforcement listen and like to the exact same things you do.
  3. If you think that cops "stereotype and racially profile black people" then why would you want to be one? If you don't constantly blare your music at ridiculous volumes, no one will care what kind of car you drive. I have never met a group of people (except for cops) who are so good a basing their true judgments of people solely on their behavior.
  4. Guess you'll have to wait and see. I never knew what a "black person car" was. I thought cars were just 'cars'. When I see something like you describe, I think, "Holy cow!! Imagine the payment, interest and full coverage costs on THAT thing! "
  5. Look actions speak louder than words and I for one have never seen a " black persons car". Many people drive many different vehicles so, you are kind of stereotyping these people. I have guys I work with ride Harley's, Honda's, drive caddies, VW's and Fords, all of which is their choice. I also listen to all kinds of music to include some rap, but not the "cop killing" gangsta rap crap. If you have a clean record, have a positive attitude and a desire to be one of the best, good luck.
  6. Black person Car??? The car you described is driven mostly by white people where I live. You should be judged by the manner in which you handle yourself on the job. If not, perhaps you don't need to be on this particular Police force.
  7. I dont think you will pass the psychological test.
  8. As long as you are doing what you are supposed to do and look the way you are supposed to look (on the job, that is) and your record is acceptable, I don't think this should be a problem, but it may depend on the town. A person who is familiar with rap and "black person" cars, could be an asset to the police force.
