1994-?? Yamaha YZF-750...need frame or something compatible to make it legal to drive..please help!!?

Hello, I have a old friend who left a 1994 yamaha yzf-750 in my yard now for about 5 years. I was thinking about making it right to drive and doing a project out of it. The bike is definilty rare because I cant find a frame so far. Heres the scoop: the bike is still in good shape, everything works for the most part but the guy is M.I.A. and doesnt want the bike, nor does he know where the title went. So, my goal si to find a compatible frame to that bike, and switch over the parts so it is legal to drive. Im from MA so I beleive we cant use salvaged titles to drive a motorcycle, so I need a frame with a clean title and I cant figure where to find one seeing as ebay didnt have one. Anyone have an helpful information for me?? I really want to drive this bike, and my alternate route would be buying a different frame similar, and just chrome dipping the yzf frame (so theres no vin after i fill it in, scrape it off) and saying its that bike, with that title. PLEASE HELP do it LEGAL! No the bike isnt stolen....i know the owner who had it before me and he was supposed to be storing it, its just to much a burden and he is in the army and doesnt care to deal with it, he like harleys, so he said if i could find a frame or figure something out I would be all set, but more about welding one....how do you go about that,,is it really hard to get ecact bolt holes made and can you title it after???

  1. Im not sure if you are being truthful, and the bike is not stolen, but it disgusts me. I had a 2007 YFZ-450 that I paid $7,000 cash for stolen a few months after I got it.. But anyways, buy the tubing and weld one yourself...custom made bike...or visit a yamaha dealership and ask around there. Yes you can title it as a custom vehicle after it is inspected. Just take the bike apart, and take all the measurements from it, and build one to your liking. Remember, you dont have to do a whole lot, most of the frame unbolts and comes off, you just need the part rebuilt that has the vin stamped on it.
  2. The preferred way would be to apply for a lost title. However, (where I live, and probably in MA as well) that needs to be done by the last registered owner. Maybe if you offered to do all of the leg work involved and pay the fees, you could talk your friend in to applying for it. -or- Check this site out. they don't have any 750 frames at the moment, but they deal on a lot of them. they could also help you with the compatibility of any other options, maybe a 600 or 1000 frame will work? not sure, but I have seen 1000's in 750 frames before. I would not recommend doing a 'custom' built frame. Sport bike frames are purposely engineered and designed to withstand the specific stresses that are placed on them. Just a little bit off with 1 measurement will greatly effect the handling characteristics of the bike. as far as the option you spoke of with 'chrome dipping' the yzf frame and using the title from a similar, but different bike....highly illegal. not saying you wouldn't get away with it, but highly illegal.
