Click type Torque Wrench, 5 ft lb???
I am going to change my tranny fluid and the transmission pan bolts require 60 inch pounds or 5 ft lbs. However, I can't find a click type torque wrench that goes down to 5 ft lbs. All I can find is ones that go down to 10 or 20 ft lbs. I saw one at sears that goes down to 0 but it wasn't a click type. I need one that has a twist type handle and clicks at the proper torque. Please suggest a good torque wrench for my needs. I have changed tranny fluid before, so I know what is involved. But I just lightly tightened the bolts before with no torque wrench. I just didn't know how its done professionally since I can't seem to find a torque wrench that goes down that far.

- Just torque them to ten pounds dude, you will be fine.
- Check with Matco or Snap-on if you will use this wrench a lot. If not then use a nut driver and just snug them up and that will do fine. You want them snug but not over torqued. I over torqued one once and blew out the seal the very next day. Torque to just where it starts to have a drag of tightening after finger tight.
- you dont need a torque wrench. all you need is a ratchet and socket. just snug each bolt up and it wont leak.
- If you are asking this question then don't do it. Take it to a quick oil change shop. It's worth the money. Nobody uses a torque wrench to tighten the bolts, its a feel based on experience but most important, do you really want to wear 4 to 5 quarts of tranny fluid when the pan comes down. Ask any veteran mechanic, no matter how good you are you still wind up wearing some. And the smell stays with you for days no matter how much you shower.
- Like the other guys said just snug them down. If you want a torque wrench to do the job you can get one at a reasonable price from this web site www.harborfreight.com . They have stores scattered all over the country now. They have them that work at foot pounds and at inch pounds. I have both.
- save yourself the money, just tighten them with a 3/8 ratchet. i worked in a tranny shop we never torqued them.
