Does anyone know if the torque bow in Predator would work in reality? Towards the end of the movie Predator, Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) crafted himself a custom torque bow made of multiple limbs tied very tightly together. I know that in reality no bow could put an arrow through a three-foot thick tree, but I am just wondering if it would work as well as a recurve bow in general.

Name of Motorcycle Movie? OK i remember seeing this movie this movie about 6 or 7 years back. It is a movie about these group of black guys who race motorcycles. they are the sporty motorcycles. In the beginning of the movie the main characters father gets killed. The way he dies is these guys are racing on motorcycles and the father is in a motorcycle shop or store and one of the guys racing crashes. the motorcycle goes flying through the window and hits the main characters dad. if i can remember the guys who is playing the dad is Derek Fisher or some other basketball player. i think the main character is Tyrese Gibson but i'm not sure. then later in the movie another guy comes in the movie who is a good racer who i think is Ving Rhames or ll cool j. a buff black guy. i can't remember the name of the film and had no luck on imdb. Anybody know about racing with a car's front wheels off the ground? I was watching The Fast and the Furious 3 the other day and saw Vin Diesel at the end. He reminded me of the scene in the first movie where, in the last "race", he drives that monster of a muscle car. When he comes off the light, the front of his car pops up from the torque being generate by the rear wheels. That reminded me I had seen some races on a TV show with the cars doing the same thing. Is there some sort of sub-culture in racing where people intend to do this? Why don't all the supercars and new muscle cars do this? Does it have to do with the types of wheels being used on the cars or maybe their gear ratio or the way the driver times his clutch use (as opposed to other racers clutch timing)? Most importantly, is there some special term used in reference to this? Thanks.

Fast cars, sexy babes and exhilarating torque of a Dominic's muscle car. Yeah baby! While FnF2 and FnF3 were megaduds, this one is superb. It brings back the original styling, speeding cars, mindless actions, beautifllu choreographed races and Vin Diesel which actually made the original FnF such a big hit. Can there be a rotating space station? I have read books that propose creating extra living space for humans by building huge space stations that rotate for artificial gravity. This would have many benefits. Heavy industry could be done in space with the benefit of hard vacuum and microgravity and kept off Earth. There would be lots of room for social experimentation, as well as a frontier that would provide humanity with a challenge much like the American frontier, except this time, no one would be killed and no ecologies would be ruined. Space travel would be much easier if spaceships could be launched in microgravity. However, I have read at http://www.astronomycafe.net/qadir/q1704.html that "a rotating space station would never work the way that you see in movies like 2001:A SPace [sic] Odyssey. Eventually the gravitational torques would cause terrible precession effects like a bobbing, spinning top." Is this true? If so, can anything be done about this problem?

Aren't you getting sick of all these special effects and cinematography in modern movies? I am. Sure, it was cool seeing it for the first 2 or 3 years when they showed this stuff like in those movies "Spider-Man" and "Torque", and "Matrix" in the early 2000s, but now, it's getting annoying because you know there's way things happen that perfect and crystal clear and those speeds in rea life, it's like the movie makers are losing their grip on reality. They continue these overdone special effects with more movie like "National Treasure", "Golden Compass", "Red Line", "Live Free or Die Hard", the last minute of that boxing match in "Rocky Balboa" at the end, and even that tv show called "Las Vegas". Zooming in like that, fast and then slow, it gets annoying after the first few dozen times after a few years. Cool ar first, but now, annoying, because that's just not reality. Anyone else here agree with me? I mean, they show a flipping car missing someone's head in "Live Free or Die Hard" by just a foot? When you really think about it, what're the odds!??
Going crazy with BF watching movies over and over? We have so many movie channels yet he always passes by movies we have not seen to stop and watch ones he has already watched! Do you do this? Sometimes I will stop on a movie I have already seen to see if it is one of my favorite scenes, but I usually only watch a few minutes. My BF will hate a movie (Stealth for example) but on TV he has now watched it three more times. Same with Underworld and Torque and some other really stupid films...... Oh and King Kong (yawn) we own the DVD and he will still watch it on HBO even though we did not like at theater. I am perplexed and want to watch new movies!

I've wondered this for many years, whether or not it's possible to design a system whereby tail rotor loss of function could be minimized by some kind of emergency jet propulsion in the tail section to produce the necessary thrust for safe control of the helicopter or by directing engine exhaust in a sidewards manner much like an engine reverse thruster to minimize or eliminate torque thrust. I'm also wondering why the military does not employ the NOTAR system in combat zone helicopters to mitigate being brought down by RPG's. Any helicopter engineers or pilots wish to comment? I envision a jet propulsion system built into the tail and properly armored that is controlled by computer to alter it's amount of thrust as necessary depending on inputs from the pilot for course correction.
