Torque Converter? If a torque converter is bad, will it cause a vehicle to stall out at stop lights or when slowing down to turn a corner? Will it cause a continuous loss of power while driving? Will it effect gas mileage? Will it make the RPM's rev up high before shifting to the next gear sometimes? I have a 1994 Mercury Villager and my van is doing all these things. Someone suggested it might be the torque converter gone bad.
How to unbolt the torque converter bolts? Iam pulling my engine and iam down to the point where iam unbolting the torque converter bolts from the torque converter acses hole, but when i try to turn the bolt counter clock wise, the whole torque converter moves, so whats the teqnique behind that?

How much fluid should my torque converter take to fill up? I am replacing the trans in my 95 Dodge Dakota 5.2L 318 V8 and I don't really know the steps I heard to put fluid in my torque converter first then put it on the transmission, then install the transmission with the bolts and after words ad fluid how much fluid does it take or is there anything else I have to do before installing my truck transmission?
How do you tell if a torque converter is bad? We recently bought a transmission that does not have a torque converter. We were told the tranny on the old truck was bad. Our hope is to use the old torque converter, but we are unsure how to tell if it is still good. The transmission is a 700R4
What kind of torque converter should i Get? I have a 1974 cutlass supreme and a have put a edelbrock and holly carb. on my car and i want my car to accelerate faster. what kind of torque converter and gears(3:73 or 4:10) would be good for my car?
Are the symptoms of a bad torque converter and a bad pump similar? I have a 97 GMC k1500. I rebuilt the transmission, and replaced the torque converter about a year ago. Recently, the truck started acting like it was low on fluid, but it showed full. I pulled the transmission assuming the pump was bad, but it showed no obvious problems. Could this be the torque converter, and how can you tell if it is bad?
How do you fix torque converter shudder? I recently changed the transmission fluid on my 2000 Chevrolet K3500 4x4 5.7L with 91,000 miles on the 4L80E. Before I changed the fluid it was shifting harder than normal (it has a HD Transgo reprogrammer shiftkit). There was a lot of clutch material in the pan also. It seems since the fluid change it is experiencing some torque converter shudder in 3-4 and in OD with slight throttle pressure. It does not exhibit any symptoms on heavy throttle use or while coasting. Could it be there is not enough friction modifier in the fluid? Or is there too much friction modifier with the high mileage fluid? I used Advance Auto High Mileage Dexron/Mercon III for the change. Thank you.
Is my problem my torque converter or transmission? In january i bought a 1996 firebird with an automatic transmission. When i got it on the road i found a nice place to see what i could get it up to. This is when i noticed a problem. My cars rev limiter is set at 4500rpm (in neutral) and under heavy acceleration my rpms jump up to around 5500 and I have to let off the gas in order for it to shift. Does it sound like it could be my torque converter? Or does it sound like I need my transmission rebiult?
What are some symptoms of a bad torque converter? My 1999 GMC Jimmy 4x4 SLE just had a complete transmission overhaul. After three weeks in the shop we get it back last Saturday. Only during cold starts I was noticing a rattling underneath the truck. It would only be like when I started it up and drove out the parking lot or something real quick. So I took it back and told them to fix whatever the hell they did because it wasn't like that before the tranny went. So anyways they called me up and told me that the torque converter had went and would be replacing it. Does this sound right to anyone? Thank for the help in advance. the said it was replaced but it failed also some valve failed too and they needed to replace that no the shop has a good rep and they gave me a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty, the vehicle did do a little bit of shaking my wife noticed it not me, the torque converter was originally replaced when the rebuild was done I just want to make sure this is the part that did fail
How do you fix torque converter lock up problems? on a 1996 dodge intrepid I get a shutter like its going in and out of gear. Motor runs great and don't miss.I would like to know how to install a switch that I can lock the torque converter at speed to stop it.
Can I use the Torque Converter from my 700r4 in a Turbo 350 transmission? the flywheel from the 350 torque converter won't fit, so to get a flywheel to fit, I need to use the other torque converter if possible. A mechanic buddy said it would work, but I'll lose a little in MPG. the 700 r4 torque converter is smaller than the Turbo 350 which had a B&M holeshot torque converter. If that makes any difference.
How would I find the wires to manually lock my torque converter? I drive an '09 Kia Borrego. The gas mileage is not superb and I was looking on ecomodder at ways to improve it. One modification that was said to greatly improve mileage was to find the wire that signals the torque converter to lock and connect it to a switch so the converter could be manually locked at a lower speed, which would improve gas mileage. Where are said wires?
At what speed does lock up torque converter engage on a Tacoma? My 02 Tacoma 2.4L and four speed automatic. I feel all shift points but cant tell when ( at what speed ) the torque converter engages. Always drove GMs in the past mainly 3 speed automatics, and torque converter would always kick in around 45, you could feel it no problem. Truck runs awesome and not having a problem, i was just curious about this and has anyone else noticed the same. Mechanics and gear heads, would love to hear back from ya.
How can I tell if my torque converter has gone bad? I just reinstalled my TH400 auto transmission and believe I broke the front pump. I am in the process of removing the transmission but I had tried to run it before I found out that it wasnt working so Im afraid I damaged my torque converter since it wasnt getting fluid. Is there a way to tell if it is damaged with the transmission out of the truck? how can I test it or do I need to take it somewhere? I am running a 327 small block also.
Can overfilling transmission fluid make a torque converter go bad? I just got my 2003 Ford Taurus fixed...main problem was the torque converter. Before I took it to the transmission mechanic for repairs, we checked the transmission fluid and noticed it was about a quart overfilled. Can this be the cause for the transmission failure in my car? Specifically the torque converter?
Who can recommend a good torque converter? I'm in the process of upgrading the rear end in my 2003 S-10 from a stock 3:42 to a Motive Performance 3:73 with a Detroit Locker posi. My next project will be a rebuild of my 4L60E transmission using a TCI Pro Transmission Overhaul Kit with Improved Shift Kit. As stated in my "about me" section, I'm interested in fast, out of the hole, quick off the line brute force. After I get the rear and tranny the way I want it, I'll begin work on my power plant. I'm still unsure which way I want to go with the motor. Anyway, what would be a good torque converter for my application? I'm looking to up my HP and torque output by at least 100 to 150 before all is said and done.
Does your car transmission need to be rebuilt if you have a chirping noise coming from the torque converter? I recently discovered that there was a chirping noise coming from my car. The gears are shifting fine with no sluggishness. I thought it was my belts but that wasn't the case. The car was taken to a transmission shop by my local mechanic. They said it was the torque converter and it would have to be replaced and the transmission would have to be rebuilt because of metal pieces being passed on to the trans(repair cost $2,000 to 2,200). That was determined only by sitting on a rack with nothing else done. I went for a second opinion by taking it to another trans shop. He stated that the torque converter needs to be replaced but the trans does not need to be replaced(repair cost $500). He highly doubts that metal pieces were passed on because all the gears are shifting fine.
Torque converter? Ive been doing some research and I think im showing signs of a locked TC on my AT.When I come to a stop my idle will drop, I hear a loud clunk and then my Idle shoots back up.I initially thought it could be the break booster but that just doesnt explain the clunk. Its like I stopped to fast for the car to catch up.It only does it when I stop at over 30 mph. What do you think? Are these expensive to replace? Anyway to test? Take it to the dealer, Transmission shop or what? Oh yea, will a failing converter cause loss of power? When climbing a hill the car drags and then another clunk and the transmission catches...converters are like clutches right? Do they cause slipping?
Does anyone know how much a Torque Converter Costs for a Ford Escort? Recently my check engine light has come on in my '95 escort, I checked the computer and its coming up as a Problem with the torque converter. I can't drive over 55 without the car begining to buck. Any Suggestions? I checked the car's computer using a small handheld device that I picked up from Pep boys. I'm hoping to fix it myself.
How to get the rest of the fluid out of torque converter? 1997 grand am 2.4 auto I just dropped the transmission pan and the fluid drained out of course. However I heard that there is more fluid inside the torque converter and I was wondering if i could start the car for a second to let that fluid circulate and drain out. Yes or no
What are the symptoms of a failing Torque Converter? I have a 1994 Dodge Ram 1500, and just the other day i was driving home and saw my RPM jump to about 3000 (was running at only about 1500 - 2000 before that). I didnt think anything of it. About a mile up the road it happened again, but this time i could not accelerate (like i was trying to drive in neutral) Occasionally the engine would connect with the transmission and i could drive a few feet before it would disconnect again. I just parked it out in a parking lot until i could get it going enough to make it home. Now when i start the truck (while its cold) everything seems to run fine, but as soon as it gets a little warm there is a loud grinding noise (like the gears on a diesel engine) that comes from the transmission. Is it possible that this sound is actually coming from the torque converter (maybe the stator's clutch went out??) It also whines as i accelerate relative to the RPM (fluid has been checked and is good and full)..... Thank you very much for your answers. (error code 37 is showing up on my OBDI) Another thing is that it only does this after being in gear for a little while, i spoke with a couple people and they said that it was probably the front pump. If this is the case, would i HAVE to get a full overhaul on the transmission, or is it possible to just replace the pump?
Can I fix a torque converter on a 1997 Neon? I'm not especially talented with cars, but my girlfriend's car has a problem where the torque converter bolt(s) has come loose and I need to tighten them. I'm not really sure what all this entails. Anyone with any knowledge of this please tell me if this is a job I can do myself, or if I need to have a professional do this job. Thanks.
What would cause the torque converter to not spin freely? When you slide the torque converter into place it spins fine all the way back except for the last inch then it gets hard to spin. It is 1997 tahoe and on the end of the torque converter there is two square notches and inside the transmission where the notches would line up is where it seems to not spin freely it is REALLY hard to spin
Can I drill a drain hole in my torque converter? I'm got an 03' F-150. They stopped putting the drain holes in the torque converters in 01'. I need to change out the tranny fluid but don't want to have to take apart lines or take it to the dealership to use a machine. If I only drop the pan, I'll only be able to change 5 of the 14 quarts it holds. Is it possible to drill a drain hole in the torque converter or will it only throw off balance?
what is the point of a torque converter and do I need one? I have an 03 mustang gt, and I want to put bigger cams and some other mods, and people keep telling me with an auto, to really take advantage of those parts, I will want a torque converter. My question is, will a torque converter affect the every day drive ability of my car? Is it mostly used in racing applications?
How do you check a Torque converter? I have a 99 Ford Escort, it has completely stopped shifting into gear, it will run but will not move at all. My father thinks it may be the torque converter. If anyone knows any information id greatly appreciate your input, thank you. It wont shift into gear at all, none of them work
Will it really hurt to have the torque converter off of the motor when i start it? I have a 454 big block that i just dropped into my 76 chevy 4x4. The torque converter that i have wont bolt up to the flywheel and i just got the motor finished where i could start it but i heard somewhere that i could break the crankshaft if i start it without the torque converter bolted up. Is that true or can i start it but not rev it to much or is it just a myth?
what are the symptoms of a torque converter with excessive end play? My 89 chevy suburban is randomly leaking (as far as i know) and i think i narrowed it down to the torque converter end play. the more torque applied the more fluid usually comes out.. it comes from the inspection plate as far as i can tell, i just wanted to know if this sounds like the symptoms of a torque converter so i dont waste my time anymore. thanks ok, well where exactly is the front seal, is it the seal that seals the converter to the tranny?
Does a torque converter have anything to do with my rear brakes not working? Dodge Dakota 2001. Rear brakes only work when in Neutral. Had front and rear brakes replaced, new master cylendar and valve installed. (everything was well bled and pouring out of the the back) Still no brakes. Next step they tell me is a torque converter. Does this have anything to do with the rear brakes or just another waste of time and money?

If I'm Installing a Replacement Transmission can I use my Original Torque Converter? I had to buy a replacement transmission for my truck at a junk yard. However, the Torque Converter they gave me with the "new" transmission was pretty rusted on the outside. I was wanting to mate my Original Torque Converter to my "New Transmission". A guy at work said to always use the Torque Converter that came with the transmission. Any help from you mechanics would be appreciated. Thank You!

Important to replace Torque converter after rebuild? How important is it to use a new torque converter after th400 rebuild? Also how much power is a stock torque converter good for? Sincerely, Brett The transmission has no obvious internal damage, it is just out of a 1969 olds. and the fluid from within the torque converter looks light red and chunkless. I figured i would run the heck out of this torque converter until i am ready to go with a stall converter.
Would a bad torque converter that's not working make a noise? 02 Dodge Stratus that won't move once place in gear. I was driving down the highway and without warning the transmission stopped pulling. I place it in all gears and it won't do anything. I've taken it to a shop and he said the pump is good but the converter should be making a noise if it was bad. What noise if any would it make if the torque converter is bad?
My torque converter has failed. What does that amount to? I've got a 2001 Chryslers Town & Country Limited, All Wheel Drive van. The torque converter has failed. The Torque converter or the centrifugal clutch on my gokart is frozen...what would be the best way to free it? I am not sure what is frozen...but something is stuck so that the motor turns over when the wheels spin...the go kart will start on a jack...but has no clutch so wheels spin in sync with the kart when running. I think It is the torque converter rather than the clutch because I inspected the clutch earlier this year and It seemed to be working great. I haven't had time to take the torque converter cover off yet as it is very late now tonight and this just happened earlier today...We had just bought a new chain for the kart and installed it today but when we tried to start it, it was stuck. Thanks for any replies

What options do I have in correcting a Torque Clutch Converter on a 1999 Honda Accord? I have a 1999 Honda Accord and lately the gears have not been shifting correctly. I took it in to the Honda Dealer to have it inspected and they advised me that I need a whole new transmission. Now my car is only 7 years old and in great condition and I find it hard to believe that I need a new transmission already. I use to have a 1991 Honda Accord and it is still running and i have not had to replace its transmission. I feel like the Honda Dealer is trying to take advantage of me because I am a lady. I could use some advice on what I should do in this situation. Does anyone Know much about the torque clutch converter and does it go that easily? Better yet, is my only option to replace the whole transmission? Any mechanics out there, I would truly appreciate your response.
