What is a good way to paint my Harley Davidson handlebars? I have a set of chrome drag bars that i'm putting on my Harley but it is all orange and black. I was wanting to know the best way to paint without it cracking or looking bad. and also will this work for the other chrome parts on it. **THERE IS NO POWDER COATER NEAR ME so this is not really an option.
Where can I find custom parts for a NEW (2007) Harley Davidson Dyna? I have just purchased a 2007 Dyna Super Glide Custom (FXDC). The front fork diamater was increased from 41mm to 49mm diameter in 2006. As a result many custom items, even those offered by the factory will only fit 2005 models and older. I specifically want a chrome headlight nacelle. The fork "center to center" spacing has changed along with the tube diameter so I can't just buy an older item and hone out the fork opening. Thanks

How much is my 1974 Harley Davidson worth? I have a 1974 Harley Davidson, been changed from soft tail to hard tail, chrome head light, monkey bars, rims, has a solo seat, lots of custom made parts. Has a 1000 cc engine.
How much is a Harley Davidson Wide Glide worth? I have been offered a Harley Davidson FXDWG year 2000 in part exchange for a BMW car I am selling. It is mint condition with 11000 miles on the clock, fsh, loads of chrome. I am very tempted but can anyone tell me what the book price would be for the bike?
Should I buy a Harley-Davidson? I admit it, for years I was a Harley-basher. They've always been the most beautiful bikes in the world, yes, but I was always more interested in utility. A lot of people buy them for the image---and I HATE the image. I like to ride motorcycles, I don't give a damn what other people think of me riding the thing. I never thought I would consider buying an H-D, but due to my height, taste and the type of riding I do, my options are limited and Harley is about the last real bike out there. I am hugely irritated with the plastic faux chrome parts on Japanese bikes in recent years. I've heard that insurance is high on H-Ds, that repairs are expensive (and frequent), and I don't feel good about the belt drive thing. If I went Harley, I'd have to go with the 1200N Sportster. Fill me in, people. By "real" bike I mean that the parts actually seem to serve some function, unlike the faux air cleaner covers and plastic "chrome" on many bikes. thomy8s: I never said the image was negative, I simply said I didn't like it. And you didn't change my mind much witrh your outburst. tamarack58: Yeah, I realize I don't have to wear the accepted uniform of the supposedly free-from-conformity crowd. The "image" I don't care for is the low-rent snobbery of the H-D crowd, (see thomy8s comment), the Made In America attitude, and the pretentiousness. And Ed: I have indeed done the research, and am obviously still doing it, since I asked the question. The high-priced custom bikes strike me as something people want to own, rather than ride. Thanks all for the responses.

Harley Davidson Sportster Grips!? I just got grips from my harley off the net yesterday. They have not made it to my house yet, but by looking at the picture i don't see a place for the throttle cables anywhere on either one of the grips. Here is a link to the picture, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harley-Davidson-Sportster-Dyna-Softail-CHROME-GRIPS-/390323525737?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5ae1185869. Sorry if link does not work. Is it possible that they are just slip on. If so, do i just cut the rubber off the throttle side?? Im confused. I have never put grips on myself just been reading and watching videos, but i can not find anything that helps me with my question.
2003 Harley Davidson Sportster Front Brake Lever Replacement? I have a 2003 100th anniversary Harley XL883R Sportster that unfortunately, due to a parking lot incident, needs a new front brake lever. I'm not necessarily interested in just OEM replacements, but I am new to the harley community and don't know where to go. I'm sure this won't be the last thing I change on the bike, so where is a good source to find inexpensive parts, with a variety in case I wanted to replace it with a black powder coat or chrome finish instead?
Why does it seem so few Harley owners...? care to give the Japanese their proper due when it comes to motorcycles? I ride a 08 1200cc Sportster HD Roadster. (883s are for sissies.) I've ridden numerous HD in my 30 years of riding experience and a good few Japanese bikes. I ride my Sporty because of it's light weight (in comparison to other Harleys, I mean.) exhaust note, and general overall feel of the bike. I didn't buy this damn thing so that I now have thousands of new 'friends' at the local watering hole. (More and more of them are weekend warrior dentists, doctors and wussy boy software designers with brand shiny new HD logo leathers that make them look like a walking, talking billboard.) I didn't buy this thing because it has 'a spirit' or 'a soul' (It doesn't. It's a ****ing MACHINE) that just so happens to have been around for 105+ years. Bread has been around longer. That doesn't mean that I think it has 'a soul' That said I can recognize what the Japanese have done for motorcycles in general. Why can't you, Mr. Hardcore Harley? Those Japanese practically own MotoGP and AMA with all of the big 4 bikes in there. They do great in dragging, too. So what's all this 'imitation' garbage? Remember in the 70s and 80s when Harley was PURE TRASH? I do. My old Fat Boy broke down TWO WEEKS after I bought it! Who do you think took advantage of that at put out similar looking motorcycles that, you know, actually ran for more than 5,000 miles without guzzling or leaking oil? The Japanese. While the government was bailing Harley out and screwing over the Japanese with taxes for the thank you. While we're at it. Why do I never hear the loud mouths at the watering holes calling a Boss Hoss an 'imitation' or Indian or Victory bikes 'imitations'? But ALL of the Japanese cruisers are...even the ones that look nothing like a Harley. Well, I got new for you pinheads. Us Americans have 'imitated' plenty of things in the span of our years on this continent. Get off your damn high horse! Harley is a great bike these days. Twice as reliable as they've ever been! Japanese bikes are pretty damn rock solid themselves, and those crotch rockets are amazing machines. You can't even tell me you wouldn't have fun busting 200mph in Bonneville Flats on an unlocked Busa or ZX-14, Mr. Hardcore Harley. I had fun with it! There's more to riding than 60mph, loud pipes and stopping at a new pub every 5-10 miles and stand around your chromed out bikes that you have PERFORMANCE parts on but then tell the sport bike riders that you don't ride for speed. (Hello double standard!) My 883s are for sissies comment is entirely false, and meant as a jab towards someone who has the same first name (Tony) as me. I just happen to own a 1200cc. I figured that was pretty **ckin' obvious give my BLATANT copy of his user name...but I guess some of you just can't wrap your heads around that.

I need to find out what the 1972 Harley is worth? My only brother passed away just over a year ago. He loved his Harley and I have it in storage and I can't get insurance on it through our auto because of it being custom made. It is a wide glide shovel head on a 72 sporster frame. I think it is over or around 1100CC. It looks just like the one Dennis Hooper rode in easy rider. He had added lots of chrome and it is very painful for me to look at this bike I can't part with it and I do want to get insurance on it. I might could post some pictures if allowed. My brother new his bikes and was a jet mechanic so it would be what he said. He dropped dead suddenly so I can only go on what he would talk about so often. He had lots of other easy rider things. I think the tanks are fat boys and it is a jump start. I am over 50 and 5 ft everyone says it is way to big for me to learn to ride. I need help in getting some idea what it is worth and finding insurance. Thank you, Sandy Thanks. sandy I can't reach the pedals and someone pointed out it could kick back and send me through the air. I found out he was thrown over the handle bars a couple of times. He was a experienced biker so I would just hope to find someone to ride me on it occasionally after I can get some insurance and idea on its value. sandy The only part that is sportster is the frame.
i need to tighten the clutch cable on my motorcycle? ok i have 1997 HD Sportster. I had some apes put on a few months back and use it to go to work and make little runs. nothing big. Since i put the new apes on they came with new cables clutch lever and brake lever and all the controls. everything is actual harley davidson parts just changes the controls from black to chrome. Well everything went on pretty easy but i have not been able to adjust the clutch lever properly. Half way down the clutch cable there are couple of nuts that i have been adjusting and I can get all of the play out of the clutch lever but it only last for a few miles and then i get slack back in the lever. The slack will get so bad that at times it is impossible to shift. like a said i adjust the nuts again and the slack is out but it doesn't last long. i would like to know a permanent way to fix this or maybe the correct way cause i am not sure if i am doing it right. please help thanks
Shovelhead value? I posted this question a while back and I hate to bring it up again but here is my situation. My brother died suddenly. He loved this bike he would tell me it looked just like the one Dennis Hopper ride in easy rider. We live in different states and he was a jet mechanic and knew mechanical things. I was living in a apt until we could get a house built and had to put most of my things in storage and then when my brother dropped dead I have kept all his things. I had to store the bike in our barn and now we are getting settled in and I would like to know if I can some how post some pictures? The only part of this bike that is a sportster is the frame. The engine is a aluminum head shovelhead with a wide glide frame. It has fatboy tanks and it only has a kick start. I need to insure it but my insurance will not due to its age. I will get to a Harley shop. But could I sent any picutures? I will not sell it. Just find its value. It has a lot of old Harley Chrome. sandy in TN
Do Sportster 883s lend themselves to performance/ cosmetic modifcation as readily as the other HD models? Hi! I almost have enough to buy my first HD, a Sportster 883. I am unsure as to whether to get the Low model, with the single seat, or the 'R', with room for a pillion. My question is, I know that the 883 Sportster is the 'baby' Harley. Does this mean that parts for modification are any rarer than those for the rest of the HD range? Do Sportsters form good bases for a modified Harley or am I better off keeping the Sportster relatively stock and saving for a larger HD if I want to mod? I am thinking loud (but legal) pipes, a slightly upgraded engine system, acres of chrome and a set of mile-high ape hanger bars. Could I do all of this to a Sportster- would it look as it does on the bigger Harleys? Or am I better off waiting until I can afford a Softail? I am in Bristol, UK, by the way, in case anyone is local or knows of any good Modification workshops in this area. Cheers! Max Cruise- thanks for your answer. I guess the ape hangers are purely cosmetic for me. Are there other bars available that are more practical but are still wider/ higher than the standards? Thanks.

best exhaust/tuner/intake/bigbore/etc. for 883 Iron? I am keen to buy an 883 IRON soon and would like some clarification from people who know what they are talking about with HD. I ride a Suzuki GSXR 750 k9 and have ridden for 15 years, but i'm ignorant about harleys. I want to pep up the performance, but am not interested in top end power so much as low end grunt as i already have more top end power than I can handle in my Gixxer. What would be your recommended combination of engine and exhaust mods for low end savage grunt? I'd like suggestions for 2 price points. A) $3000 or less. including fitting for any major engine parts. B) around $5000. Is a big bore kit the way to go? Or will I get more out of a cam? Or can I afford both? Also to make it more difficult, I hate chrome, so as far as exhaust goes i would have to have black exhaust like some of the V&H pipes, or exhaust wrap etc. It will also be my daily ride so I would have to go with an aircleaner that will function in the rain. But above all I'm after LOW END BALLS... Sugestions? Cheers, Kane.
