Anyone heard of using a mixture of kitty litter and charcoal to protect motorcycle chrome over the winter? I heard an advertisment on the radio recently saying you can protect your chrome from moisture over the winter if you combine charcoal and kitty litter in a container and place it under your motorcycle cover - can't remember how much of each to use, however. Anyone else know any details about this?

Once I polish the chrome on my motorcycle, how can I keep rust from coming back? When I first got my motorcycle, I decided to use Mother's chrome polish just to keep it shiny. However, I think I removed a protective coating. Now it rusts in some spots. I can polish it out again, but thats not the point of chrom. Is there something I can put on the chrome(like wax or some oil) to keep it from rusting so soon?

Chrome bolts for motorcycle.What do you use for chrome bolts and chrome nuts, locktight or anti seize? If I am using nylock nuts do I need to still use anti sieze? I want to replace all bolts to chrome including my motor mount bolts. Some say locktight others say always us anti sieze for chrome. Just looking for info on the right way to do it. thanks Ok, thanks for the answers so far. I was told that I would need anti seize for the chrome bolts and chrome nylock nuts. I understand that chrome on chrome can gaul but am not sure if it is needed with the nylock nuts. Do the chrome threads actually touch the chrome in the nylock nut?
Is it possible to strip down chrome to expose the nickel plating? Hello. I have a set of older chrome motorcycle handlebars that I would like to have nickel plated instead. Rust on chrome of motorcycle? I have a 81' honda rebel. On the tail pipe and other various parts there is rust on the chrome. What is a good way to remove the rust and give it a good shine. Ive gotten the rest of the bike with a cleaner but the rust wont come out.
Motorcycle chrome wheel leaks? Was on a Harley, here's the story Bought a new chrome wheel, had a new tire mounted on it. It loses about a pound of air day. I've had 2 Harley dealers take the wheel of the bike and dunk it in a tank - no bubbles. The second one also took the tire off and replaced the tire valve remounted the tire - still leaks. Take it back to the second dealer, he takes the wheel and tire off, puts a used wheel on with a new tire, takes the old wheel and tire apart, mount a new tire on my chrome wheel and mounts my tire on a different wheel. The wheel with the new tire is losing air and the tire with the different wheel is holding air. So it must be the wheel rather than the tire that is leaking. I have the wheel here right now, have looked over it with a couple of magnifying glasses and I can't find any cracks. Are there permanent sealers for the wheel? Any ideas on how to solve this?

What's the difference between polishing compound, chrome/metal polish, and wax? TurleWax Polishing Compound? I have a motorcycle with chrome parts, painted metal parts, painted plastic parts, and exposed engine parts. I was going to get this "TurtleWax Polishing Compound" because it said it makes stuff shiny and erases scratches, and that it works on paint *and* chrome. Should I use this for everything? Do I have to put wax on after? What if I skip the polishing compound and just wax? Also, shoudl I get something special for the chrome, like metal polish? how do i know what to get? What is the difference between all these, what exactly do they FOR.. the title's aren't very descriptive. What to do if your motorcycle fuel tank overflow when pumping gas? Ok, this just happened to me a few hours ago. I was fueling my motorcycle at a gas station. The automatic shut-off valve from the hose was not working properly and there was gasoline all over my motorcycle. What should I do to ensure nothing will get damage? How do I check the oil in my Motorcycle? I bought a used 96 Vulcan 800 in mint condition. I have had motorcycles in the past. They always had a view window that showed how much motor oil was in the crank case. Or they had a dip stick. This Vulcan has neither. It only has a chrome cap in the top of the crankcase on the right side that scews off with a flat screwdriver, but no way for me to know if it needs oil if it is low or too much or what. How can I tell when to add oil? Or when I am filling it how to know when it has enough? Please help me to find out if My Vulcan needs me to put some motor oil in her...because if she is low I want to add some....but I am afraid to add some without knowing if she is low because I dont want to overfill her. Thank you Your answer willbe greatly appreciated. Perry I didnt get an owners manual with it and I dont want to have to take it to the dealer to find out because they are soo expensive. They are so snobby over there, they wont let you back to talk to the mechanics...they try to get you to leave your bike and pay them to check the oil instead of just telling me how to do it....They need to make money..it is a business and I understand that..I just want to know how to check the oil only. What would happen if I spray painted the muffler of my motorcycle? Its a Harley Sportster and I'm painting some of the body with Harley spray paint. The muffler, which is chrome-plated is in the way for some so I was wondering if I could spray the muffler. Would it get too hot for the paint while riding?

What motorcycle speaker system is better...road rumble 2" speakers OR the "sound of chrome" by Kyrockin? Just curious what the better system would be. I have a Heritage and would like to try to hide them as much as possible. Also I have 1 1/4" diameter 16" Gorilla bars...so the clamp on the stock Kyrockin system will not work.... Actually, had two ideas...one would be to mount the speakers to the crashbar which is also 1 1/4"... the other is to get the 2" speakers and drill holds in my Brackets for the windshield and mount them there, beside the windshield bag...that would be kind of hidden anyhow. Any Suggestions? I didn't ask your opinion on having a radio...I asked which is a better system...
