do we need to use the torque wrench to tight the spark plugs? hello folks.. its regarding my 01 max and i have never changed the spark plugs on my car by myself, but i did changed the coils so i know how to get to the plugs etc, my question is..do i need to buy a torque wrench to tight the plugs or i can just use the rachet and hand tight them? please help me cuz i am on the way of getting this done today.
How much torque to use with a torque wrench? Ok so I'm need to tighten down my valve cover on my Suzuki Samurai with a torque wrench. How much torque do I need? I don't want to over or under tighten it. What do you think? I need quick answers because it's kinda a big problem at the moment.
how to use a torque wrench? i need a torque wrench to tighten lug nuts..... how do i use it... how much torque do i need... what size drive do i get what happens if u over torque the lug nuts
How to attach a torque wrench to an external bottom bracket? I'm replacing the bottom bracket on my bike with an external one and the instructions advise using a torque wrench to install it. What I don't know how to do is attach the wrench to the bottom bracket so that I can use the torque settings? Can anyone help?
Please explain how i use a torque wrench? I replaced my intake manifold and its plastic , i dont want to over tighten. I never use a torque wrench. There are 9 bolts on the intake. I have the tightening sequence instruction with the intake. I just have no idea how to torque. 18 lb/ft or 25nM , it says I may rent one free at Autozone. Please explain to me step by step after i put on the manifold, and then what? Do you hand tigthen all of them first and then use a regular ratchet and then torque em? PLease list every specific detail from then on. I have no clue. And tell me what type of Torque rench should i rent at AZ. Thanks alot
Question on how to use a torque wrench? I just purchased my first torque wrench, it goes from 0-80 ft/lbs of torque. If I were to do a repair that required taking my wheel off (i would take the wheels off with a breaker bar, not the torque wrench, i know that). To re install the wheel, the suggested torque is 90 ft/lbs. Since my wrench doesnt go that high, could I set it to 50, torque the lug nut, set it to 40 and then torque the same lug nut in order to do it in stages?
Using a torque stick on an impact wrench set at the proper torque, but not hand tightening lugs nuts? I can't remember for certain if I hand torqued the lug nuts on this vehicle I worked on. I was haivng a moment when I put it on, tightened them completely, but realized I forgot to balance the tire. So I loosened everything, took the tire back off, balanced it, and put it back on. But since I got home, I can't remember 100% if I hand torqued the nuts with a torque wrench. I did use an impact wrench with a torque stick that is 100 ft lbs, which is what the manufacterer calls for, that much I'm certain. And I'm pretty sure I did hand torque them (again) as well. Maybe I'm worrying too much, but could anything possibly happen if a person indeed torques the lug nuts with an impact wrench using a torque stick at 100 ft lbs, but not hand tightens them at 100 ft lbs with a torque stick? Not sure what the probability is, but I'm hoping to find out. And please, no mean comments about how I could make that mistake. It can happen to the best of us. I'm just looking for a peace of mind here. The rims are steel, not aluminum, just so everyone knows. Steel lug nuts against steel rims.
How do you calibrate an old used snap-on torque wrench? I purchased it over the weekend for $40 from a local swap meet. I am not sure how old it is but maybe it's about 10 years old. Not sure if it works correct either. Would I be able to calibrate it to correct setting myself? How do I do it? Torque wrenches are not covered from their life time warranty, do they?
Spark Plugs Foot Pound Torque on 96 Corolla? I have a 1996 Corolla and the spark plugs needs to be changed. I plan on changing the plugs myself, and feel that I must use a torque wrench to tighten the plugs. Does anyone know how many pounds I'm suppose to torque it up to ?
can a torque wrench be used to remove rusty bolts? i got two 18mm bolts im trying to remove to take off the hub i was unsuccessful yesterday taking it off. so i started soaking it yesterday with liquid wrench and again today i soaked it again. later i will take a breaker bar to it i wanted to know if a torque wrench would be helpful taking it off. do they some how give you more power in removal
Dropped torque wrench, is it still going to be accurate? I have a torque wrench, the one that has a long arm like a pendulum that hows how much torque is used, and havent been really careful with it. Like putting it down a little hard and stuff like that. Is still going to be accurate? This is not for the torque wrench that you set and it clicks btw
Torque Wrench - Will it need calibrating? Ive just unboxd a brand new torque wrench and used it to torque a nut with a left hand thread, not realising its only supposed to work in the opposite direction, it says on the box "do not use for untightening nuts as it will need recalibrating or even brake te wrench", how do i tell if its broke?
toilet flange bolt recommended torque? Does anyone have an idea as to how much torque (in-lbs or ft-lbs) I should tighten toilet flange bolts? I've over tightened before and ruined the plastic flange and have replaced everything and want to use a torque wrench... any suggestions?
Need help finding equation for torque? I have a bike with a weight of five pounds tied to the rim. I use a torque wrench to turn the bolt at the center of the pedal (which turns the wheel). The resistance will always be a constant five pounds, so the distance turned is irrelevant. believe me, I actually got a torque wrench and tested it, and the torque stayed the same no matter how much it was turned. Basically, think of it as a screw that always had a five-pound resistance, and if it was held still, there would always be five pounds of force pulling it, so how much torque would be required to keep it from turning? (i need an equation to determine this. the answer is about 60 pound-inches.) the force is applied to the exact center. I used a torque wrench, which should be calibrated to remove the length of the handle.
What is the proper spindle nut torque if the optimal range is 170 - 203 ft lbs? The Chilton manual says to tighten the spindle nut to 170 to 203 ft lbs of torque to not damage the wheel bearing. I've never used a torque wrench before so I have no idea how accurate one is. Realistically, how precise is a torque wrench and how precise do I need to tighten the nut if there's a 33 ft lb margin? Should I just tighten it to 186?
please help me pass please include how you got the answer? A plumber uses a torque wrench to loosen a corroded nut. A) if he exerts a force of 400 N perpendicular to the wrench handle and the wrench is 15 cm long, then how much torque does the wrench experience? B) If he exerts a Force of 400N at an angle of 40° from the perpendicular on the same wrench, then how much torque does the wrench experience? C) what might a plumber have available to help generate more torque easily?
How does a torque wrench work? I know how to use one, I mean like how does it internally work? And also the torque bits that you put on the end of an impact? I really don't understand those
where is the best place to sell a 1 inch drive torque wrench>? i have a 1 inch drive torque wrench i got for free. i need to sell it cus i have no use for it and it collects dust. its brand new never used. and i need some cash in my pocket. how much should i sell it for and where is the best place to sell it because not many people have one or need one for their personal use.. please help!!!
Ford Bolts: #'s & Symbols-- What do they MEAN? Ford (Lincoln, Mercury) bolts, screws & fasteners, in-general: Where can I locate / is it even possible to obtain, a chart or some-sort of magical decoder amulet that will tell me what the significance of the #'s & symbols on FMC's bolt-heads mean???!!! I had to do a bit o' guess-work figuring-out which (4) bolts to use on the "U"-brace/bracket on an alternator for a 1999 Crown Vic 4.6, V8..... , b/c I didn't have the old bolts to compare them to (MY car was missing the bracker & bolts, when I bought her). Anyway, near the area under the car where the bracket had been tossed-aside by the person(s) who pulled the alternator itself, I found 2 bolts that were both stamped on the head w/ an "M" inside a Hexagon (6 sided shape-- each side of equal length [just in-case some of us needed a geometry refresher[!]), & "9.8" below that. They seemed to thread perfectly into the hole(s) but I couldn't find 2 more like them HOWEVER, I did find two similar looking 1's, stamped w/ what looked like a small, waving flag, w/o a pole, above the #"9.8" . These 2 also threaded (seemingly) perfectly into the holes. The long-&-the-short of it is: I ended-up shearing one of each type (using a torque wrench, @ torque halfway between max and min, recommended by AllData FSM). Upon further research (& after extracting the sheared threaded-shafts), I found that there were several different types of bolts that had the VERY SAME markings as the ones I mention above, & there were 4 to 5 variations of shaft &/or head size, & even thread-configuration... But the VERY SAME stamp(!). Maybe there's some obvious "code" that I'm just not "getting" & I'm just showing that I'm still REALLY "wet behind the ears" w/ this DIY car stuff but, how the heck do ya' mark one bolt w/ one thing, & a completely different bolt w/ the SAME darn thing as the last 1???!!! And YES... I HAVE noticed that some of the stamps look the same @ 1st but, upon closer inspection, you might find a small dot, or a line under the #'s. What I'm speaking of are the stamps that are EXACTLY the same, on COMPLETELY DIFFERENT bolts! Thanks, for ANY leads! Louis T. Racker Atlanta, Ga PS If PPS Haynes manual (CV & MGM 1988-2002[???!!!]) gives SOME info, mostly speaking of how much torque-tension a particular bolt can withstand BUT, if that IS the case... How the heck are you (&/or the dealer) supposed to know if you've got the correct bolt/fastener for the component upon-which you're working???!!!. . . . . &, none of Haunes' pic's look anything like my bolts (prob from '88 yr model!) PPS I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT 4 BOLTS I'M SUPPOSED TO BE USING IN THE UPPER ALT. BRACKET!!!
we are experiencing pipe settlement on a submarine pipeline newly constructed. how to fix it? We constructed a submarine intake and discharge pipeline (1.2m dia.) that is using a flange to flange connection for a cooling system for a small power plant. It is trenched but the bolts are loosening (we were not advised to use a torque wrench), because the seabed based on soils investigation was found to be silty sand to poorly graded sand plus there are no sinker or thrust blocks on the joint connections. Also the pipelines which crosses a road way onshore was only backfilled without any protection or culvert, heavy trucks about 30 tons in weight frequently pass this road. How do we fix this? Is there a design deficiency?
How to tighten alternator belt (tension bolt, pivot bolt, etc)? My alternator has 2 pivot bolts and 1 bolt that has teeth (think it's called tension bolt). How do I tighten the belt? I tried moving the tension bolt clockwise and counter, but it wouldn't move. So then I loosened the nut on the back of it. Then it just spun in place. What am I missing here? I feel like just using a pry bar to create tension on the belt and then just tightening all 3 bolts. And not even messing around the tension bolt. Also, do I use a torque wrench on the tension bolt? My car book says to tighten the belt to something like 30 lb-ft. (I made that number up)
Please Help! How do you install a wheel bearing for a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix correctly? I went to a friend of mine who happens to be a mechanic, and he replaced a wheel bearing for me at his shop. Soon afterwards, I noticed the same "whirring" sound... "Could it be something else?" I wondered... So I went back to the friend and he said it could just be a bad part, so he ordered another one and we "replaced" the newer wheel bearing again. I drive away and test it, same problem! "Maybe it's not the wheel bearing" I thought... So we switched the 2 front wheel bearings to see if the problem switched sides, and wouldn't you know it, my right tire has a "whirring" sound now. So, obviously the problem IS the wheel bearing. I used an aftermarket part, so we thought maybe at this point we should get an AC Delco one so we KNOW the part is good. We just replaced it again, and it's STILL making this stupid noise! As you can tell, this is driving me crazy. I've noticed on several sites that people sometimes use a torque wrench when dealing with wheel bearings. . .
How do you tighten the flywheel on a 1969 Ford van with a C4? When I bought this van in 1995, it had a rap which I was afraid was a rod. I got friendly with a local mechanic, and he told me one day, "You know, that's not a rod, that's your flywheel. We'll tighten it for you for fifty bucks." I said, well heck, I can do that, and I tightened it up myself. Later I blew the transmission. I think it was because of that -- probably I didn't tighten it up right. So I had a rebuilt put in. Recently, a mechanic at work pulled the tranny and put it back on, and now that rap is back. I'm pretty sure that's what it is -- the flywheel and not a rod. Now my question is this -- Was my mistake the first time that I did not use a torque wrench and make sure all the bolts were even, or is this something I must hire a mechanic to do? The friendly mechanic is no longer around, and I do not currently have rapport with any mechanics in my area.
Ford Focus (1999) - Spark plugs - how easy to change? Your Question Focus:Spark plugs - I'm a beginner - how easy to change? I heard I should get Platinum but heard the clearance and cross threading can be an issue. Should I leave it for the mechanics? I heard if I tightened them in by more than 1/16th on a turn (in the Haynes manual) and I don't use a torque wrench or set the clearance incorrectly then they become very inefficient. Is there a feeler gauge on my 1999 Ford Focus? How likely am I to make a mistake? Where is the cheapest place to by the platinum plugs from? I heard these days they come with some sort of clearance built into them? Any links would be handy cheers. Are spark plugs generic to vehicles? LrT provided a god answer. Kelly Fwas confusing with her grammar. I checked on Yahoo Answers and someone mentioned Iridium. I phoend aCar parts place and there do the standard ones for £1.65 + tax or the Iridium ones for £11.75 + tax (17.5%, VAT). They are pre-gapped. The Iridium ones are good for 60-80,000 miles and he recommended a wrench. I will have to see if I have the relevant one. He said that the standard ones are fine (prob last 20,000 miles) and will do for for a few years. Aware the expensive ones will be more efficent (but how much more effecient? He said "they give a great spark" it was luaghable how passionate he sounded! He said the expensive ones woudl be fine in my 1.6 16v car but considering the expense people who buy them are those who typically map their ECUs etc.
How do I know when I have reached the specified torque when changing motorcycle oil? I'm a fairly new rider and want to do my routine repairs myself. I've been told time and time again not to overtighten the oil drain bolt or else i'll strip it. The manual says to tighten the bolt to 17Nm and the filter to 43 Nm. How can I tell when I've reached the specified torque just using a socket wrench? Should I just do it by feel and barely tighten it when it starts to tighten up? I've been told that the drain bolt tightens as you ride. Also, for brake bleeding, should I open the valve BEFORE I pull the lever, pump it, close the valve, and release the lever; or pump the lever, open and close the valve, then release the lever. I watched a video that says you should do both in that order, but I want to know what works most efficiently. Thanks.
guys i need help with my toyota 4 runner? i have a 3.0 v6 1990 toyota 4runner and i having problems after replacing the alternator. As i was trying to unscrew the bolt that holds the wire to the alternator using a torque wrench, there was a spark because my wrench touched the chassis of the car ( i forgot to disconnect the wires from the battery, sorry cause im inexperience with cars) well after i replaced the alternator and put everything back together, as i tried to start the car , it wont start, all i hear is the clicks sound, the head lights are working but the light for panel display does not. Horn is working but the radio is not. I think that i have fried or burned out the fuses but i checked. there are no burned fuses. Should i check again? Anyone knows how to fix the problem? have i completely destroyed the electrical system? would appreciate any helps thanks
After working on the front brakes, I still feel a brake pulsation when I brake. How do i fix it? I have a Nissan Altima with 64k miles on it. I just got the original rotors that came with car resurfaced for the first time, and put in a new set of stock brake pads. I greased the shim surfaces and the caliper pins, made sure the tires were properly inflated, and used a torque wrench to torque the lug nuts to 80 ft-lb. Before I did this the brakes felt much worse. The steering wheel would shake when I hit the brakes, and I would feel a strong brake pulsation at the pedal. At least now the steering wheel doesn't shake! I feel a pulsation when I brake (not as strong as before), and am wondering how to fix it.
how to get the timing right in my honda? im doing a head swap on my honda and im not really sure of how to set the timing. the head im swapping in is a vtec head and im putting it on my current block.. how do i get the timing between the head, pistons, and belt to be right on key, i know how to do every other aspect of the swap besides this. also need to loosen the spindle axle nut holding my hub and brake assembly on, no access to impact gun used a torque wrench it just made the rotor spin... what do i do to get it loosened?
Clutch Torque? I currently dont have a torque wrench but need to use my bike this week, which is before i can get a torque wrench.. So, when coming to put my clutch back on i found in the manual the torque settings for the 5 bolts, Now, this is what it says.. "tighten to a final torque setting of 0.3 - 0.5 kgf m (2.0 - 3.5 lbf ft)" Now i have no idea what that really means, in the sense of how much to tighten it without the wrench, but does anyone know how i can tighten to this torque for the clutch spring bolts to be secured safely? Thanks. I definately have read it correctly.. Please see this pic! http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m62/ant-147/DSC01588.jpg
How to find Torque with this information? A student working on their car needs to tighten the mounting bolts to a specified torque. If the student is using a 9.4 inch long wrench and is applying 16.8 pounds of force, what torque in Newton-meters (Nm) are they appling to the bolts? That is the question I was given. I don't even know where to begin. Could someone help me out? I can maybe answer one of your questions in exchange.
Torque on Wrench - Vectors Problem? A wrench 35 cm long lies along the positive y-axis and grips a bolt at the origin. A force is applied in the direction <0,4,-3> at the end of the wrench. Find the magnitude of the force needed to supply 50 J of torque to the bolt. I believe I need to use the cross product of the length and the direction somehow... I'm just really not sure how to set this problem up.
how nut gets tightened while applying torque on it? Am working in a fuel injection company . after the endurance testing i've seen a nut used in my product which is loosened which actually has a tightening torque of 25nm was turned as 5 nm . while using a wrench. is it necessary to have a loosening torque equal to that of tightening torque is that phenomenon changes with vibrations and pls explain me how does the nut gets tightened when it is applied torque
What does it mean to torque your oil drain plug? Today I want to try and change my oil for the first time. I have a 2008 Scion TC. I have located all the components and have the materials, however what does it mean to torque the oil drain bolt. Also how would I do this using a standard socket wrench.
Question about Snap-on tool warranty? I heard that ALL snap-on tools have life time warranty. I also heard that SOME tools such as torque wrench is not covered under warranty. Who is correct? What's covered? And how long? I don't know anything about snap-on warranty. Need some info. I went to swapmeet today & someone was selling a used snap-on torque wrench for $40 but didn't buy it cause didn't know if it worked & didn't know if it's covered under warranty.
Is there such things as square sockets? I dropped the pan on my automatic transmission so I could adjust the low/reverse adjustment bolt. My manual says I need to tighten the bolt to 72inch/lbs before backing it off 2 turns and locking it with the lock nut. The only problem is the adjustment bolt has a square head. How can I torque it using a socket based torque wrench? None of my sockets fit properly, as they are designed for a 5-sided head. Do they make sockets for square-headed bolts? If not, how can I torque it?
I do not understand how to work this work/ torque problem? I am confused? I am confused at what the question is asking: A torque wrench with a 12 inch handle is used on a bolt. A torque of 264 inch-pounds is applied to the bolt. How much force is needed on the handle to reach this torque? ______ Pounds. You do not have to solve it just provide or help me to understand this question with a formula. What exactly is it asking here? force or torque? Can you provide and example or how to calcaulate this. Thanks, mj6118
care of carbon fiber bike? How do you care for a carbon fiber frame? Windex, pledge, hot soapy water? Is it essential to have a torque wrench, or will "hand tight" be ok? If torque wrench, how do you know how much torque to use? Finally, I'd like to get a little more upright. Can I add one more 1/2 " spacer if it extends 1/4" above the stem? I'm an experienced cyclist and would appreciate any other advice specific to carbon fiber bikes. Ride on!
How do I calculate the force in this problem? According to the manual of a certain car, a maximum torque of magnitude 71.0 N · m should be applied when tightening the lug nuts on the vehicle. If you use a wrench of length 0.307 m and you apply the force at the end of the wrench at an angle of 75.00° with respect to a line going from the lug nut through the end of the handle, what is the magnitude of the maximum force you can exert on the handle without exceeding the recommendation? Please show how to solve this type of problem.
An old Sunnen torque wrench model PN-50, how old? Does anyone remember them? I came across an old Sunnen torque wrench, the model number PN-50. I wanted to know if anyone remembers them? Also how old do you think it is? It has like a little arm that folds back onto itself from the end where you place the socket. That is hard to explain, they need to use pictures on here. Thanks
PHYSICS PROBLEMS I NEED HELP.I DID ATTEMPT! 10 PT.S TO BEST ANSWER? 1.A tractor wheel has a radius of .84m. How far does a point on the wheels edge move when the wheel is rotated through an angle at 67degrees? 2.In order for a bolt to be tightened, a torque of 45.0N-m is needed. You use a 0.341-m long wrench and you exert a maximum force of 189 N. What is the smallest angle with respect to wrench, at which you can exert this force and still tighten the bolt? 3. Chloe, whose mass is 56kg sits 1.2m from the center of a seesaw, josh whose mass is 84 kg, wants to balance Chloe, where should he sit?
physics: torque problem? The torque required to loosen a nut that holds a wheel on a car has a magnitude of 58 Nm. Whats the minimum force exerted to loosen the nut if the wrench used is .35 meters long. The answer is 165.71. How do i do this problem.
What is the force exerted on the wrench? Torque has a magnitude of 80 N·m. Using the data in the figure, determine the magnitude F of the force that you must exert on the wrench. The wrench is .28 meters and pointed 50.0 degrees Northwest above the horizontal. The Torque is 80 Nm. I know T=Force x lever arm, but I forgot how to find the lever arm length. Can someone please explain?
Torque on Bolts? Why does the torque settings differ on a variety of components when there is a standard list published. On that list , it is explained that these torque settings are onle to be used when the manufacturers specs are unavailable. How do manufacturers then go about calculating the ideal torque? The torque wrench is in any case inaccurate due to friction and a list of other factors. There are far more accurate and expensive items to measure, but for a motor repair shop, how does the the engineering shop calculate the cylinder head torque on vehicles and why does it differ? Just so that we are clear, im talking about comparisons between two identical materials?
Torque and tangential force? I have no idea how to do this question - I've looked up tangential force, and its really confusing on the internet and there's nothing in my book. It's a new concept that we haven't learned yet in my class. Help would be much appreciated. =) Throughout an amusement park, it is evident that nuts, bolts and welding are major contributors to structural strength and safety. A nut is specified to be tightened to a torque of 20.0 Nm. a) If a bolt is 10.0 mm in diameter, what is the tangential force between the bolt and nut? b) If a 150.0 mm length wrench is used, what perpendicular force at the end of the wrench will achieve this torque? --- I think I know how to do b), but can someone check my work to make sure I did it right, because I'm really not sure. b) T = F x l F = T/l F = 20.00Nm/0.1500m F = 133.3 N
I was watching Terminator 2.? And noticed the terminator was Changing the starter on a truck and asked John connor for the torque wrench.? Hes a Robot wouldent he have the Ablitiy to Know how much torque hes using.? And if so i could prolly harm to john when grabbing him might snap his neck by accident. Unless he has some common sense about the pressure hes using. also after he shatters the T1000 why doesnt the Terminator pick up all the Parts and toss him in the Hot metal and just kill him. John! YOU got to Go now.!! GO NOW! Hey Asswipes. If its just a movie and its just a question and dont want to answer it move on. I hate stupid people.
Electric Impact Wrench/Gun, can you adjust torque? My father damaged his shoulder recently which limits how much he can use his arm. He could not take off the lug nuts on his car the other day so I had to help. I would like to get him an Electric Impact gun to take off and put on his car tires. I would like 1 that is battery powered as they seem to be the better choice in terms of portability, plus we don't want a compressor. I am noticing that some of the guns are 220ft/lb to 300 ft/lb of torque. His car (Corolla) is supposed to have 76ft/lb of torque to tighten the wheel lug nuts. If I were to tighten with the impact gun, I would over tighten and possibly break the studs, right? All the torque would be fine if all you're doing is removing the lug nuts. But what about tightening them back up? Are electric impact guns adjustable to avoid over tightening? Or are they meant just to loosen? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Belltech 6400 Shackles On '03 Gmc Sierra...torque Specs? Year: 2003 Make: GMC Model: SIERRA 1500 Engine: 4.3L V6 Transmission: Automatic Suspension: - Currently stock height - To lowered 2" in the back to level height - Components to be used: Belltech 6400 Shackle Kit - Shocks Used: Stock I seem to be having trouble finding the torque Specifications needed to complete the project. Either that or I am rusty on my Google skills. I have looked and looked. The instructions call for a 0-75LB Torque Wrench, which I have, but omits the torque specs since this product can be used on many vehicles. If you could help me out I would be very much appreciate it. The closest I have come is some one tell me "Not too tight, not too loose"...that is not how I do things. If it comes down to it, I'll torque to 70lb and call it a day, but I feel that finding out what GM really calls for would be for the best. Thank you
Question about how to correctly torque a bolt? As everyone knows when you do deep engine overhauling you will fine each bolt has its own bolt torque to be tightened Ive always just tightened it as tight as I could all of my life but according to the trucks manual doing so can cause serious engine injury basicvally Im asking how do you know how much torque you put on a bolt do you have to use a special tool? or can it be doe like I thought with a rachet or a wrench?

Can any1 tell me how to fix a frozen engine? i changed out the rod bearings cuz my engine was knocking real loud. Now i cant start it or even turn the crankshaft with a torque wrench! it's froze up. How would i fix it and what new parts should i get? Or should i just save up money and buy a used engine from a wrecking yard?
I have some tools never been used still in the origional box. How much are they worth.? Snap On 1/2 drive torque wrench 50 to 250ft pounds, a Snap On Blue Point air wrench 3/8 drive 5-50ft pounds. I dont wanna be a machanic any more and i am considering selling or pawning them depending on how mush i can get. But I dont wanna sell a $300 tool for 50 bucks. any ideas how mush i should get for these or how much do they cost new from snap on.
Honda accord engine block coolant drain plug? We are trying to remove the drain plug, but even using a pipe and ratchet wrench for extra torque we cannot remove it. Any suggestions? Does this plug normally get opened when changing the coolant. Does any one know how much coolant is in the engine block? I drained about 1 gallon of coolant from the radiator drain plug.
how to remove a broken bolt? The head broke off a bolt on my jeep. I tried to use an extractor to get the stud out but cant get enough torque to remove it, and cant find a small enough 8 pt. socket to use impact wrench on it. I drilled through the stud and there is barely any of it left but i cant get the last part of the stud out. Any idea how I can remove the remaining part of the stud?? thanks
Physics: Torque Question help? I really need help on this problem.. I keep staring at this problem, my notes, and the book.. The drain plug on a car's engine is required to be tightened to a torque of 25 mN. If you are using a 0.15-meter long wrench to change the oil of that engine, what is the minimum force you need to apply to loosen the plug? So I have no idea where and how to start.. so please help. Do I need a torque wrench to change the disc and pads? Hi got to change the rear discs and pads on my 02 vauxhall vetca 2.0dti hatchback in the haynes manual it gives torque wrench settings but no where in the list of things to do does it say use a torque wrench to tighten bolts etc. Advise from someone in the know please. Cheers.
What do the numbers on the handle of a torque wrench mean? On my torque wrench I can see the ft/lbs scale but on the handle that I twist there are numbers that say 0 2 4 6 8. What do these mean? I understand what a ft/lb is, and how to torque a bolt. However, my previous torque (much older one) did not have these numbers on the twistable handle. Ok, got it Ben and N E, thanks a bunch guys.
What is the essential torque wrench for a 05' Ninja 250EX? I need to get a torque wrench for my bike and do not know if a beam wrench is good enough or if I should get a dial wrench. Beam wrenches seem to be around $30ish and the dial ones are $70ish. I also don't know what lb ratings I need to get or whether I should get a 1/2" or 3/4". Any help would be appreciated.
What size of torque wrench do I need to tighten my car's spark plugs to 30 Nm? I've got a cheapo 1/2" Torque wrench, which comes with a 150mm extension bar and a 1/2" to 3/8" converter. My car is a VW Golf made in 2002. Do you think I'll be ok with a 1/2" torque wrench, or will i need the 3/8" adapter... or maybe I need the 1/4" torque wrench? I find it hard to know why there are 3 main sizes of torque wrench. Thanks. Thanks.
How do you adjust a torque wrench? I have torque wrench that has two settings, Nm and MKP (and I have no idea what those mean). There's 2 different sets of reading too: one is around the handle (it's black), and the other is kind of a tree format (the numbers are stacked on top of each other), and that part is above the handle, but goes into the handle when you push it closed. I already know how to convert ft-lbs, into Nm, but I don't know how to set it. Please help me out!
is it really necessary to torque wrench the wheel nuts? Hi, im gonna have a go at changing my tyres this weekend on my bike. Any ideas if you really need to torque wrench the nuts on the wheels? I have seen plenty of people not do it, but I assume you would want the nuts balanced on both sides. Any thoughts, what do you other bikers out there do?
How would I calibrate a Dial Torque Wrench? How would I calibrate a Dial Torque Wrench? This is the Dial type with the round, glass enclosed face with a needle indicator. The indicator is on approx. 76 ft lbs, quite a ways off from zero. I'm hoping there is a way for me to calibrate it myself. I searched the net but couldn't find an answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
How do you take a reading from a torque wrench ? I know that torque wrenches are supposed to allow you to tighten nuts and bolts to certain tightness (torque) - for example some bolts on a car need to be tightened to a set specific torque. I've got a 1/4 - 3/8 torque wrench set... looking at it for the first time.... what bit of it shows the reading of torque... cause I just can't understand it. Mine looks a bit like this : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230026319466&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=230050607986&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=StoreCatToStoreCat&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget#ebayphotohosting Also would i need a bigger torque wrench and add-on bits to test/tighten my car's wheel bolts? Thanks (sorry I'm not good with tools but trying to get better) Thank you for your very informative answers. It seems my torque wrench(s) must be quite old... (they are at leat 15 years old and were passed to me from an engineer) as they are solid metal to the bottom with no extra setting area at the base - and the part which turns at the top also doesn't have a setting area... just a "left" marking and a "right" marking.... no markings for newton meters, ft lbs, inch lbs dial indication whatsoever. However thank you for some very informative answers which shall come in useful for when I buy a new torque wrench.
A torque wrench used in the final assembly of cylinder? A torque wrench used in the final assembly of cylinder heads for automobile engines has a process standard deviation of 5.0 lb-ft. The engineers have specified that a process average of 135 lb-ft is desirable. For a simple random sample of 30 nuts that were recently tightened with the torque wrench, the sample mean was 137.0 lb-ft. Construct a 95% confidence interval for the current process mean. Discuss the possibility that the torque wrench may be in need of adjustment to correct the process mean.
Which torque wrench is good for belt work on a car? My boyfriend would like a torque wrench for his car, I want to make sure I get the right one without him knowing. I know one of the things he will be using it for is tightening a belt or perhaps the pulley that goes to the belt, either way its not just for lug nuts etc. any suggestion
Where can i get a 1/4 inch drive torque wrench? Where can i get a 1/4 inch drive torque wrench that is capable of measuring low ft-lbs like in the 5-10 ft-lb range? I have to change my oil pan gasket again because I didn't torque it right last time. Now I have a line of oil going all the way up my driveway - oops.
where to buy an open ended torque wrench? where can i buy an open ended torque wrench capable of 10Nm? thanks Hey BIRD! Neither Lowes or home depot have open ended torque wrenches...so check your info before you throw out a "DUH"....DUH!
Torque wrench for lug nut removal? I recently bought a torque wrench for working with my wheels and tires. I was told that you shouldnt use it to remove lugs after the fact. is that just an "old wives tale"? If I can't use it to remove lugs, since they were impact-wrenched on, what is the best way to get them off? im not sure about the brute strength option, im no world strongman unfortunately.
What exactly would I be paying for in a $200 dollar torque wrench? I've always tightened my drain bolt by feel, but have now decided to invest in a torque wrench. I would never spend 200 dollars on something like this but is there any reason I should spend more than $30? As I've seen wrenches that appear similar to each other ranging that price gap. I understand some higher end models are digital, but many 200 dollar wrenches seem to be exaclty like the 30 dollar ones except for the "Snap-On" label.
I have a 160 ft lb torque wrench and I need to torque to 177ft lbs? This is a hub bearing nut on a 2003 4wd Yukon. What should I do to ensure I get the proper torque? I could tighten, torque to 160 and give it a slight tap on the end of a breaker bar with a rubber mallet or something like that? Been told not to overtorque. Any suggestions? Aussie, I was not going to bang on my torque wrench. If I were to do that it would be with a 3/4 rachet or breaker bar.
What is "drive" on a torque wrench? I am looking to buy my boyfriend a torque wrench, and in shopping for them I'm finding 3/4" drive and 1/2" drive and so on, but I'm not sure what that means. Please advise! I want something that he can use with different bolt sizes - but I am completely clueless with this type of thing! Thank You!
Torque wrench for spark plugs? Is a torque wrench necessary for replacing spark plugs? Why does the bolt have to have a specific tightening? What type of torque wrench is recommended for this type of routine?
need a torque wrench to install my new oxigen sensor? I bought a replacement unit for my mazda protege 2000 post cat, oxygen sensor... I the installation notes it says I should thighten it to 35 Ft /lbs... Could I simply adjust this with a normal wrench or is it important to thighten it to the specified torque? If I can just do it with a normal wrench,...is 35ft/lbs a lot or just tight? Thanks
Question about a micro torque wrench? I've never used one but I know its supposed to click when I reach the desired torque. My question is, since I've never used it, does it easily adjust to fit different size bolts? Oh ok so you just put sockets in it. Does it have to be for that particular model or could I put any sockets in it?
What is the maximum torque at which an impact wrench gives an impact???? Am planning to use an impact wrench as an air drill at 70 Nm torque...the ultimate torque the impact wrench can produce is 210Nm.Am not sure if i give a continious torque of 50 Nm on the wrench's shaft will it rotate without impacts or what will be the general torque at which the impact starts for the wrench which i have specified
Who makes a reasonably priced, quality, torque wrench ? Specifications: micro-ajusting, 24" long, 1/2" drive, all metal, i.e., no plastic components, range: 10 lb ft - 150 lb ft. Value is the major concern, not price. Snapon makes quality tools. However, they are not a good value, due to their high price. Sears, makes inexpensive tools. However, they are not a good value, due to their limited quality. I have an old, Craftsman torque wrench. It has given me good service over many years, now the adjustment is stuck. I looked at the new Craftsman, torque wrenches. The quality appears to be lacking.
Which is the better 3/8” torque wrench for me... range of 10-80Nm, or one with range of 27-108Nm? I want a 3/8” torque wrench for doing stuff on my car.... Which do you think would be most versatile for most of my auto needs? (I know little about auto mechanics but have been doing some of the easier jobs so far.... and maybe more in the future, excluding timing belt - so am looking for which torque wrench range might offer the best option for most of the easier jobs I might encounter) The one with range of 10-80Nm: http://www.toolsnstuff.co.uk/product_info.php?pName=38%22-SQUARE-DRIVE-10-80-NM-OR-885-708-IN-LB-RATCHET-TORQUE-WRENCH&products_id=8102&osCsid=f518ef2049aa6cadaa616f100bcbb98b Or the one with range of 27-108Nm? http://www.toolsnstuff.co.uk/product_info.php?pName=Torque-Wrench-38%94Sq-Drive&products_id=16454&osCsid=f518ef2049aa6cadaa616f100bcbb98b I realize that neither is an uber precision style Teng, Snap-On ect... cause I just can't afford it tbh. Thanks
Where may I obtain servicing, for a thirty-five-year-old, Craftsman torque wrench.? I have had no luck with any of the Sears stores, including "Sears Hardware", or "Sears Servicing". Please Note: The question, has nothing to do with the viability of repair, only where repair may be had. I also thought, all Craftsman hand tools had a lifetime guarantee. However, when I brought it in, for replacement or repair, the store clerk checked the warranty on a new one; it was one year. I realize, now, it doesn't mean, mine only had a one year guarantee.
Torque wrench or 24V impact gun? I am going to start doing work on my own car, and to help out i want to invest in some more powerful tools. i know the impact guns are good for tires, but are torque wrenches just as good? and more useful in the long run for things other then tires?
Buying a Torque Wrench? I want to buy my husband a torque wrench for his birthday. He needs one today but he is going to rent one. I was looking on the internet and I have no clue where to start. I see they come in different sizes!? Today he is using it to put in the gasket and retighten the head. He asked me to call auto zone and ask if they rent one and told me no bigger than 1/2 inch. I want him to be able to use it for lots of different things. I think he would mostly use it on the car. So what do I need to look for?
what torque setting should I use? the differential in my 1963 chevy 1/2 ton pickup ate a bearing. It was the one on the "third member" shaft (the part that connects to the driveshaft) I replaced the bearing and have it all back together now. What torque wrench setting should I use when reinstalling the brackets that hold the races on the axle bearings? what about the pin that holds the rod in the center that keeps everything in place? any other helpful hints? thank you
Any reviews on Precision Instruments torque wrenches? Was looking through ebay auctions for wrenches and came across a few of these and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. Are they quality tools? How accurate are they? Specifically the Dr. Micrometer Click Torque Wrench.
