What do the numbers on the handle of a torque wrench mean? On my torque wrench I can see the ft/lbs scale but on the handle that I twist there are numbers that say 0 2 4 6 8. What do these mean? I understand what a ft/lb is, and how to torque a bolt. However, my previous torque (much older one) did not have these numbers on the twistable handle. Ok, got it Ben and N E, thanks a bunch guys.
What is the essential torque wrench for a 05' Ninja 250EX? I need to get a torque wrench for my bike and do not know if a beam wrench is good enough or if I should get a dial wrench. Beam wrenches seem to be around $30ish and the dial ones are $70ish. I also don't know what lb ratings I need to get or whether I should get a 1/2" or 3/4". Any help would be appreciated.
What size of torque wrench do I need to tighten my car's spark plugs to 30 Nm? I've got a cheapo 1/2" Torque wrench, which comes with a 150mm extension bar and a 1/2" to 3/8" converter. My car is a VW Golf made in 2002. Do you think I'll be ok with a 1/2" torque wrench, or will i need the 3/8" adapter... or maybe I need the 1/4" torque wrench? I find it hard to know why there are 3 main sizes of torque wrench. Thanks. Thanks.
How do you adjust a torque wrench? I have torque wrench that has two settings, Nm and MKP (and I have no idea what those mean). There's 2 different sets of reading too: one is around the handle (it's black), and the other is kind of a tree format (the numbers are stacked on top of each other), and that part is above the handle, but goes into the handle when you push it closed. I already know how to convert ft-lbs, into Nm, but I don't know how to set it. Please help me out!

is it really necessary to torque wrench the wheel nuts? Hi, im gonna have a go at changing my tyres this weekend on my bike. Any ideas if you really need to torque wrench the nuts on the wheels? How would I calibrate a Dial Torque Wrench? How would I calibrate a Dial Torque Wrench? This is the Dial type with the round, glass enclosed face with a needle indicator. Dropped torque wrench, is it still going to be accurate? I have a torque wrench, the one that has a long arm like a pendulum that hows how much torque is used, and havent been really careful with it. Like putting it down a little hard and stuff like that. Is still going to be accurate? This is not for the torque wrench that you set and it clicks btw
How do you take a reading from a torque wrench ? I know that torque wrenches are supposed to allow you to tighten nuts and bolts to certain tightness (torque) - for example some bolts on a car need to be tightened to a set specific torque. I've got a 1/4 - 3/8 torque wrench set... looking at it for the first time.... what bit of it shows the reading of torque... cause I just can't understand it. Mine looks a bit like this : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230026319466&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=230050607986&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=StoreCatToStoreCat&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget#ebayphotohosting Also would i need a bigger torque wrench and add-on bits to test/tighten my car's wheel bolts? Thanks (sorry I'm not good with tools but trying to get better) Thank you for your very informative answers. It seems my torque wrench(s) must be quite old... (they are at leat 15 years old and were passed to me from an engineer) as they are solid metal to the bottom with no extra setting area at the base - and the part which turns at the top also doesn't have a setting area... just a "left" marking and a "right" marking.... no markings for newton meters, ft lbs, inch lbs dial indication whatsoever. However thank you for some very informative answers which shall come in useful for when I buy a new torque wrench.
A torque wrench used in the final assembly of cylinder? A torque wrench used in the final assembly of cylinder heads for automobile engines has a process standard deviation of 5.0 lb-ft. The engineers have specified that a process average of 135 lb-ft is desirable. For a simple random sample of 30 nuts that were recently tightened with the torque wrench, the sample mean was 137.0 lb-ft. Construct a 95% confidence interval for the current process mean. Discuss the possibility that the torque wrench may be in need of adjustment to correct the process mean.

I have a 160 ft lb torque wrench and I need to torque to 177ft lbs? This is a hub bearing nut on a 2003 4wd Yukon. What should I do to ensure I get the proper torque? I could tighten, torque to 160 and give it a slight tap on the end of a breaker bar with a rubber mallet or something like that? Been told not to overtorque. Any suggestions? Aussie, I was not going to bang on my torque wrench. If I were to do that it would be with a 3/4 rachet or breaker bar.
What exactly would I be paying for in a $200 dollar torque wrench? I've always tightened my drain bolt by feel, but have now decided to invest in a torque wrench. I would never spend 200 dollars on something like this but is there any reason I should spend more than $30? As I've seen wrenches that appear similar to each other ranging that price gap. I understand some higher end models are digital, but many 200 dollar wrenches seem to be exaclty like the 30 dollar ones except for the "Snap-On" label.

Torque wrench for lug nut removal? I recently bought a torque wrench for working with my wheels and tires. I was told that you shouldnt use it to remove lugs after the fact. is that just an "old wives tale"? If I can't use it to remove lugs, since they were impact-wrenched on, what is the best way to get them off? im not sure about the brute strength option, im no world strongman unfortunately.

I the installation notes it says I should thighten it to 35 Ft /lbs... Could I simply adjust this with a normal wrench or is it important to thighten it to the specified torque? What is "drive" on a torque wrench? I am looking to buy my boyfriend a torque wrench, and in shopping for them I'm finding 3/4" drive and 1/2" drive and so on, but I'm not sure what that means. Please advise! I want something that he can use with different bolt sizes - but I am completely clueless with this type of thing! Thank You!
Question about a micro torque wrench? I've never used one but I know its supposed to click when I reach the desired torque. My question is, since I've never used it, does it easily adjust to fit different size bolts? Oh ok so you just put sockets in it. Does it have to be for that particular model or could I put any sockets in it?
Who makes a reasonably priced, quality, torque wrench ? Specifications: micro-ajusting, 24" long, 1/2" drive, all metal, i.e., no plastic components, range: 10 lb ft - 150 lb ft. Value is the major concern, not price. Snapon makes quality tools. However, they are not a good value, due to their high price. Sears, makes inexpensive tools. However, they are not a good value, due to their limited quality. I have an old, Craftsman torque wrench. It has given me good service over many years, now the adjustment is stuck. I looked at the new Craftsman, torque wrenches. The quality appears to be lacking.
What is the maximum torque at which an impact wrench gives an impact???? Am planning to use an impact wrench as an air drill at 70 Nm torque...the ultimate torque the impact wrench can produce is 210Nm.Am not sure if i give a continious torque of 50 Nm on the wrench's shaft will it rotate without impacts or what will be the general torque at which the impact starts for the wrench which i have specified
Which is the better 3/8” torque wrench for me... range of 10-80Nm, or one with range of 27-108Nm? I want a 3/8” torque wrench for doing stuff on my car.... Which do you think would be most versatile for most of my auto needs? (I know little about auto mechanics but have been doing some of the easier jobs so far.... and maybe more in the future, excluding timing belt - so am looking for which torque wrench range might offer the best option for most of the easier jobs I might encounter) The one with range of 10-80Nm: http://www.toolsnstuff.co.uk/product_info.php?pName=38%22-SQUARE-DRIVE-10-80-NM-OR-885-708-IN-LB-RATCHET-TORQUE-WRENCH&products_id=8102&osCsid=f518ef2049aa6cadaa616f100bcbb98b Or the one with range of 27-108Nm? http://www.toolsnstuff.co.uk/product_info.php?pName=Torque-Wrench-38%94Sq-Drive&products_id=16454&osCsid=f518ef2049aa6cadaa616f100bcbb98b I realize that neither is an uber precision style Teng, Snap-On ect... cause I just can't afford it tbh. Thanks
Where may I obtain servicing, for a thirty-five-year-old, Craftsman torque wrench.? I have had no luck with any of the Sears stores, including "Sears Hardware", or "Sears Servicing". Please Note: The question, has nothing to do with the viability of repair, only where repair may be had. I also thought, all Craftsman hand tools had a lifetime guarantee. However, when I brought it in, for replacement or repair, the store clerk checked the warranty on a new one; it was one year. I realize, now, it doesn't mean, mine only had a one year guarantee.

Buying a Torque Wrench? I want to buy my husband a torque wrench for his birthday. He needs one today but he is going to rent one. I was looking on the internet and I have no clue where to start. I see they come in different sizes!? Today he is using it to put in the gasket and retighten the head. He asked me to call auto zone and ask if they rent one and told me no bigger than 1/2 inch. I want him to be able to use it for lots of different things. I think he would mostly use it on the car. So what do I need to look for?
Any reviews on Precision Instruments torque wrenches? Was looking through ebay auctions for wrenches and came across a few of these and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. Are they quality tools? How accurate are they? Specifically the Dr. Micrometer Click Torque Wrench.

Torque Wrench Rental? Would any of you happen to know where I would be able to rent a "certified/calibrated" standard torque wrench? Thanks! I am a contractor and I have an inspector asking to verify an installation with a "certified and calibrated tool." I have an old one that I've always used but he said it isn't good enough. I know that I will likely never need it again, so spending the money to by Snap-On, MAC etc. is out of the question.
